Previous meeting?

[edit]

Hi

I am sure I have met someone on Wikipedia before with an almost identical user-page message... ah well, I suppose it wasn't you?

Anyway, I am not sure that Nathan2055 can help you with the topic of your post, you could try the Wikiguides or someone similar, but I suspect that you main problem is in understanding what a reliable source is. There are some clues up above, in the welcome message I have left for you; for the purpose of better understanding I will try and explain it a little further.

The main points for getting an article into "mainspace", the encyclopaedia area that can be seen by the public, and keep it there are fairly basic.

  1. Ensure that the subject of the article is notable (see WP:NOTABILITY)
  2. Write around 50-200 words (ensuring there is no WP:COPYVIO)
  3. Make sure there is a reference for every salient point (see WP:REFERENCE)
  4. Make sure the references are reliable (see WP:RELIABLE)
  5. Ensure the article is structured correctly (see WP:ARTICLE and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (layout))

There is an area that you can create articles in your user-space (User:R.E.Henrickson/Sandbox - though it could be anything in place of "sandbox") and here you can create articles without fear of them being deleted.

There are also some good guides, such as Wikipedia:Your first article.

If you need further help please get in touch. Click the talk link next to my name, click on "New topic" at the top of my talk page, and type away :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 05:59, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me, but I am having some difficulty understanding exactly what and where the "3rd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment" fit in to the structure of the US military. I have found some references, but most of them are discussing the Mountain Division.
Without revealing too much information about yourself (as Wikipedia is fairly public) can you specify the dates of inception of the regiment and if it has been disbanded, the date that it was. You can also put very approximate dates you served as well so that we can work out the years of your specfic knowledge, make sure if you do so that you only put things like "60s-70s" etc.
I understand that 2nd Batt, 10th AvReg was flying Chinooks (or C-17s ?) in the late 1990s-2000s click me, but cannot find anything on the 3rd Batt.
I did find a reference to a 24 year old who was killed, but it implies that the full title was: 3rd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Light Infantry click me, hence my confusion over the correct title of the section.
Wikiepedia does already have 10th Aviation Regiment (United States) (is that the correct one?) it is just going to be whether or not the 4 Battalions are notable enough to warrant their own articles, or whether they should have their own sections in the current article. I did find this: 3d Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment Lineage and Honors Information as of 15 April 2009 and this, though it appears to be about the 10th Mountain division, 3rd Battalion 10th Aviation regiment.
I read Snake Pilot: Flying The Cobra Attack Helicopter In Vietnam by Randy R. Zahn about a year ago, interesting book about one of my favourite helicopters, I did not realise how small they were until I saw one on the deck of USS Intrepid last year, they're tiny!
