Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Ragib 30 June 2005 23:08 (UTC)

I've pulled your questions from User_talk:Andrevan to ensure you see the responses.

And why is it my entry is STILL FLAGGED?

Wikipedia:Neutral point of view

Moments later I decided to go back in and check the entry again - only to find someone had changed it AGAIN, using my real name, etc...

Wikipedia:Page_history

Why is it that everyone can edit someone else's entry?

Wikipedia:About says (amongst other things):
Wikipedia is a free-content encyclopedia, written collaboratively by people from around the world. The site is a wiki, which means that anyone can edit articles, simply by clicking on the edit this page link. It runs on MediaWiki software.

Is there any way other people can be prevented from editing other people's entries?

There are exceptional circumstances when a page will be locked, see Wikipedia:Protection policy.

However, I trut what I entered this time will hopefully correct the problem, but who's to say someone won;t come back in and re-edit my work all over again, rendering it useless?

I hope this all clarifies things a little for you. Josh Parris 1 July 2005 00:01 (UTC)
What Josh said is about right. Anyone can edit your entry, and they usually have good reason to do so. There's no reason not to have your name on the page. Andre (talk) July 1, 2005 04:32 (UTC)
Please also see the page, Talk:Romath, where editors can discuss matters concerning the article. If there are particular points in the article which you believe are erroneous that is a good place to bring them up. Also, the article isn't "yours". It's Wikipedia's biography of a person named Elaine Matthews/Romath. Everybody here wants to work towards an article which fairly summarizes, with a neutral point of view, the verifiable information available about Matthews/Romath. Please discuss deletions

[edit]

Please use the Talk:Romath to discuss your deletions. Thanks, -Willmcw July 2, 2005 01:24 (UTC)

I haven't been the one editing as you leave messages on my talk page. Please use the page history function. Thanks. Andre (talk) July 2, 2005 20:17 (UTC)

The real name of Romath is widely available on the web, and on www.Romath.com. I have asked for comments from other editors here Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Biography articles - reluctant subjects, in case you'd like to give your input. Thanks, -Willmcw July 3, 2005 01:23 (UTC)
Internet privacy: Naturally no one here wants you to be harmed. But if you have been stalked for several years by someone, presumably that person already knows your name. It has been posted by you in a number of places and is even now on your own webpage.[1][2][3] I don't see how repeating this already public information on Wikipedia could affect you. At this point it is like closing the proverbial door after the horse has left the barn. -Willmcw July 3, 2005 05:41 (UTC)
PS - I see that your name is repeated on the Usenet hundreds of times. Your concern about it appearing in Wikipedia appears to be misplaced. -Willmcw July 3, 2005 18:00 (UTC)

Please don't edit Romath

Hi

Just a note to say that when (as appears to be the case here) a user has an article in the main namespace, we normally recommend that that user does not edit that article. By all means add suggestions on the talk page, but editing the article itself is generally considered bad form. This is because it is difficult to be objective about oneself, and yet objectivity is one of any encyclopaedia's aims. Kind regards, jguk 3 July 2005 21:45 (UTC)
