Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Logic gate into History of computer science. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 20:19, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ferret. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, it's important to be mindful of the feelings of your fellow editors, who may be frustrated by certain types of interaction. While you probably didn't intend any offense, please do remember that Wikipedia strives to be an inclusive atmosphere. In light of that, it would be greatly appreciated if you could moderate yourself so as not to offend.

There's the boiler plate. Now the meat:

Hi Randomnest. This is a warning in combination of several edits plus your email to me. Your edit here, years ago, was wildly inappropriate. So no, I absolutely am not going to confirm any details about this editor to you, as you appear to be seeking out racial reasons to discriminate against this user, or to confirm biases you have against them. Even if he's beyond a doubt a sock of Jagged, this is completely inappropriate.

In fact, some admins would block you outright for the comment in 2020, even being two years old. So take this as your only real warning. Further comments on this nature or digging at and seeking out personal details about another editor will lead to a block. -- ferret (talk) 14:27, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Ferret. I understand. Thanks for warning. I appreciate it. --Randomnest
