Revert

[edit]

Hi. I reverted your changes. You made the article look like some kind of advertisement. If there is anything in particular you think should be changed or added, please let me know. Cheers zzz (talk) 21:20, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, do you work for Wikipedia?

There was no intention to make it look like an advertisement, but it needs an update.

I have amended the intro, as it refers to Scientist as an artist that just did things back in the 70s/80s. He's still very much working. i.e. he mixes as "Scientist", not "mixed" as Scientist.

I have removed reference to the legal disputes, as these are very contentious matters and in contravention of Wikipedia rules. His music and career should be highlighted, not a copyright dispute.

You have removed external links, which I added. These were updated links, rather than old ones that are currently there. As I said, he's still doing lots of things, so why would you refer to links from years ago?

I'd be grateful if you would accept my changes.

No problem, it is improved now. I restored the old links by accident, I did not notice you had updated them. zzz (talk) 20:06, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, RebelSoulLiv. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Scientist (musician), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Binksternet (talk) 20:26, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1. Am I able to update the external links with newer articles?
2. Please can you update "mixed as "Scientist" in the 1980s" to "mixes as "Scientist"? He's still alive and very much active. It currently sounds like he used to be Scientist.
3. Please can you justify why you have kept reference to the legal disputes? There is no conflict of interest, it just seems unreasonable that it is mentioned here, but not in the Greensleeves Records Wiki page. What about every other musician that's had a legal dispute, is that referred to in their Wiki page?
4. Please add that he now resides in L.A. You say he moved to Washington. This was over 30 years ago.
You can edit the article with new material but it should come from WP:SECONDARY sources. It's not enough to say that Scientist moved to Los Angeles, you must support the statement with a citation to a published source. Wikipedia is not here to tell the readere everything you can think of to write about Scientist, just a summary of what is already published. You can read more at Wikipedia:No original research#Primary, secondary and tertiary sources.
We can easily remove the Washington residence bit.
The legal disputes were published about Scientist. They are part of his career.
Scientist became famous in the 1980s. If you can find some articles talking about his recent work, bring them in. Binksternet (talk) 23:13, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please update with the following.

"Scientist worked as an engineer in recording studios in the Washington, D.C. area starting in 1985.[1] He moved to Los Angeles in the early 90s, where he continues to produce prolifically and design his own studio equipment"

This wording is set out here: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/713054

Here's links confirming his new albums. I'd be grateful if you could update the piece:

Also, you confirm that a citation is required to back up statements. So why is there no citation on the following comment

"Despite being paid a royalty on these and all recordings he made for Henry "Junjo" Lawes, Scientist sued Greensleeves Records unsuccessfully in a US court. The court ruled that according to precedent a recording mixer was not considered the author of a musical work, and so Rockstar were correct to treat the producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes as the copyright holder of the album.[citation needed]"
