Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. [1] MrOllie (talk) 15:51, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is this the relevant talk page? Or did you mean on the dApps page? Sorry new to wikipedia, also unsure why those links are blocked, the pages didn't seem to be selling anything. If there is a list of links I'm allowed to use please send it so I can avoid this issue in the future. Thanks! Ricktoshi (talk) 16:09, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We do not use blogs as sources on Wikipedia, especially not in the blockchain space. MrOllie (talk) 16:19, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So if I can't use coindesk, cointelegraph, decrypt, resh community (blockchain blogs) what type of sources can I use? Should I just cite it back to Wikipedia? Ricktoshi (talk) 16:29, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can't use Wikipedia as a source for itself, either. Nothing crowdsourced or self published. You can use peer-reviewed journal articles, major newspapers like the NY Times, books from Academic publishers, things like that. See WP:RS for details. MrOllie (talk) 16:35, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information, I guess I will ask my peers on the talk page before posting any links in the future just to stay on the safe side. Ricktoshi (talk) 19:33, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. Notice of general sanctions

[edit]
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Unsourced additions and the minor edit checkbox

[edit]

Hello.

Please carefully review Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Per above, blogs and crypto outlets like Coindesk are not reliable, so instead, you will need to cite reliable sources. When you add information without any source, this is usually what's known on Wikipedia as "original research". Per WP:OR, Wikipedia isn't a platform for publishing original research.

Please also review WP:TONE and WP:NPOV. Summarize sources using formal language from a neutral point of view.

Finally, please review Help:Minor edit. This is for edits like fixing typos and reverting obvious vandalism. When in doubt, don't mark edits as minor.
