Conflict of interest?

Hi Roberta, on the basis of your user name and the various edits you've just made I assume that you are the author of this book https://www.lapub.co.uk/books/a-e-w-masons-running-water-and-the-guide-with-introduction-and-notes-by-roberta-grandi/? You do need to be very careful about citing details taken from your own work - see WP:SELFCITE.

Also, Wikipedia has very strict rules against adding multiple links to your own work, particularly where, as here, a sales link is made to an online shop. Where the links - even if added in good faith - act primarily to draw attention to the editor or their own work, that is considered self-promotion or spam and is prohibited by WP:CITESPAM. Rather than adding your own material directly to articles, I'd suggest mentioning it on the relevant talk pages (stating that you are the author). Another editor may pick up the information and add it off their own bat if they independently consider it significant. Of course, that's only realistic if other editors have access to the material. Is your book publicly available anywhere, for example at the British Library, or is a free-to-access online copy available somewhere like JSTOR? This is an area I am myself interested in and if I can see a copy of the text somewhere I might even want to add material from it myself.

Because of these concerns I'm going to have to revert at least some the additions you have made, I'm afraid. Do please ask if you have questions about Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. You can also ask at the Teahouse (see welcome message above). MichaelMaggs (talk) 10:40, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear talk, thank you for your comment. Yes, I am actually the author and I didn't know it was an infrigment of Wikipedia's rules, thank you for letting me know. In all honesty, there's so little about Mason that I thought it was worth adding a reference from my work. And, yes, the book is available at the British Library. (the problem is that I think I'm the only scholar doing research on Mason at the moment, not many chances of being quoted by anyone else!). Anyway, elminate all that you think must be eliminated. --Robertag77 (talk) 10:56, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Roberta. I'm glad to hear someone is doing serious research on Mason. I've been gradually working through the articles on the novels for some time, adding plots and basic details of what Roger Lancelyn Green has to say, but it isn't easy to find very much else. The main A. E. W. Mason article needs a complete overall, and I plan to work on that at some point, so having new scholarly material to draw on will be great! I'm not at the moment travelling in to the British Library (COVID is still very bad here), but will do so as soon as it feels safe. In the meantime, if I can help with any other improvements do please let me know: I'd be more than happy to work with you. MichaelMaggs (talk) 11:12, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

talk Great to hear that there's someone reading Mason somewhere in the world! If you need help, I can add a couple of things on some novels I've read and studied (but not published about, don't worry!). As soon as I have a minute, I'll do it and you can check if I'm doing it right.--Robertag77 (talk) 11:48, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
