I have reverted your addition of a date of birth to Madeleine Stowe. In addition to Wikipedia's basic principle of citing sources (Wikipedia:Citing sources), a special need for citations applies with regard to elements of a biography of a living person (WP:BLPPRIVACY). Feel free to add a date of birth when it is accompanied by a citation to a reliable, published source. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:10, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because of this she never had a date of birth on her page. She has her birth date on every wiki page except English. There is also no conflict about her date of birth either, so I don't understand why you can't leave it like that, just with the warning that there are no reliable sources for this information.
Added sources from other wikis, is that good enough? Roman Popyk (talk) 12:25, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You said, "so I don't understand why you can't leave it like that, just with the warning that there are no reliable sources for this information." If that were done, we would still be publishing a date of birth without a reliable source, which would violate WP:BLPPRIVACY.
Please read WP:BLPPRIVACY again. It says, in part, "Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public." The other wiki sources that you mentioned meet neither of those requirements. They are not linked to the subject (as in the subject's official web page), and they are not reliable sources. (WP:USERGENERATED) If her article contains a date of birth, it needs a reliable source. (See Wikipedia:Reliable sources for guidelines regarding what qualifies as a reliable source. So I found Brad Pitt's article on Wikipedia. He doesn't have the source next to his birth date, why nobody removed that? Roman Popyk (talk) 17:09, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing that out. I have removed the date of birth from the Brad Pitt article. At first, I thought it was sourced in the "Early life" section because the sentence containing the date of birth had a citation at its end. (The date of birth does not have to be cited in the infobox if it is cited in the text.) When I read the cited source, however, it did not contain the date of birth.
You will see many other pages like that. Many biographies of living people contain unsourced dates of birth, sometimes because editors were not aware of WP:BLPPRIVACY and other times because they didn't care and added a date anyway. Eddie Blick (talk) 20:56, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why not adding the source instead of removing it? Takes the same time. Now his article is without the birth date and I have to add it Roman Popyk (talk) 11:00, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If I had a valid source for Brad Pitt's date of birth, I would have added it. I had no such source, so I removed the date because of WP:BLPPRIVACY.
I did not know that you had a valid source. Why didn't you just add the citation instead of writing the message to me? You probably could have added a valid source in less time than it took to post your message asking me about Pitt's date of birth. Eddie Blick (talk) 00:00, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also didn't have one. I just googled "Brad Pitt biography", and took the first source there. Took me a minute. Why didn't I do it? Because I wanted to know why there wasn't one in the featured article(!) and what would you do if I point that out.
Don't take offense, I just think that this WP:BLPPRIVACY is stupid, because you can spend the same time adding the warning that you could have spent looking for the source and improving Wikipedia Roman Popyk (talk) 11:23, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your feedback and your desire to improve Wikipedia. Eddie Blick (talk) 23:31, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy by inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory or otherwise controversial content into an article or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Madeleine Stowe. Nobody cares if you agree with WP:BLPPRIVACY or not but if you're going to edit here, you need to abide by it. Adding dates of birth supported by sites that are WP:USERG and WP:MIRROR will get you blocked. Toddst1 (talk) 22:08, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see, I do not edit frequently on English wiki. Block me if you want, I do not care. What I care about is Wikipedia, and I never willingly broke the Wiki laws or what you call them even if I do not agree with them, so tone your behaviour down and do not threaten me for an innocent mistake.
I added those sources from other Wikipedias, because I thought if they are good enough for them, they are good enough for English wiki. I do not intend on reading thousands of pages containing Wiki laws to add one line of text and move on with my life. I never had such problems on other wikis, but if English admins/moderators don't have anything useful to do rather than writing ton of unnecessary rules I guess I have to abide them Roman Popyk (talk) 17:15, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
