A tag has been placed on Michael Wotton, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ~Matticus TC 15:42, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Do not remove tags
[edit]Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:
- Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
- Make your case on the article's talk page.
Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you.
Note that the above says ADD {{hangon}}. It DOES NOT say remove any others. Fan-1967 15:48, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Your edits to Kevin Pressman and Colin Montgomerie
[edit]Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you.
DO NOT add your nonsense to real articles. Fan-1967 15:49, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- You haven't demonstrated from any reliable source that there even are any Wotton fans. People going to the articles above are looking for information about Pressman and Montgomerie, not some nobody with a facebook page.
- Has anyone ever actually accused Pressman of masquerading as this guy? No. Fan-1967 15:56, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- All edit histories are quite visible, like this one. Fan-1967 15:59, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
I know Michael Wotton having played football against him in Spain as a member of the Barcelona Supporters Club and FC Girona's youth team.
I would have loved to have left you a message about this but your colleague has deleted my page Michael Wotton. I feel this is unfair - I had no chance to explain his importance. - ronnierosenthal— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronnierosenthal (talk • contribs)
- If you wish to appeal against the deletion, you can add a message to Wikipedia:Deletion review, explaining why you believe the person in the article is worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia. I tagged the article for deletion as there was nothing in there to explain how this person is noteworthy - all it gave was a few details about him, like what football teams he supports and so on, which clearly met the criteria for speedy deletion A7, not asserting notability. Wikipedia has clearly-defined guidelines on what constitutes a person notable enough for an individual article here (these guidelines are referred to by the shortcut WP:BIO). There is statement there related specifically to sportspeople, requiring the person to play at a professional level or at the highest amateur level and have a significant enough presence and following to have reliable third-party sources of information about them (this is very important too, as all information on Wikipedia must be verifiable). I hope this explains the reason for deletion clearly. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask me, or place the {{helpme}} tag on your talk page and a member of the help patrol will assist. ~Matticus TC 16:55, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
I will add all this in next time I submit an article on Michael Wotton, i.e. when I have the time to write such an essay.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronnierosenthal (talk • contribs)
- A newly-created article need not be a huge, multi-paragraph biography of the person. A lot of really great articles started out as mere stubs and got expanded as the original author and other editors added to them. For biographical articles, just a few sentences saying who the person is, why they are notable (important!), where they live/work/play for, and so on will suffice. The important thing is to cite sources though, so that the information can be confirmed. ~Matticus TC 17:17, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- As Matticus has explained, it's important to have reliable third-party sources. Not facebook, not a listing for his team that unregistered users can't see. Please review the helpful suggestions that Matticus gave above. FreplySpang 17:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Username block
[edit]Hi, per WP:USERNAME it is unacceptable to use the name of living celebrities as a username unless you also happen to share that name. This account will be blocked permanently unless there is a good reason to use this name, eg your real name is in fact Ronnie Rosenthal. I believe the footballer spells his first name Ronny but doubt this creates enough of a distinction. Please respond here. Deizio talk 22:24, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey his name is spelt Ronny while my actual name is Ronnie so give me back the use of my username now. Don't go around blocking people willy nilly. Ronnierosenthal 13:08, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Having looked into you editing history it appears this account is used entirely for vandalism and unconstructive edits. Regardless of the username situation, you can consider the account blocked anyway. If you return to Wikipedia I suggest you drop your fixation with Michael Wotton and contribute positively. Request reason:
I have respected warnings given to me and have not broken any rules that I have been warned about. The administrator is wrong - I have edited some pages constructively, and my creation of the Michael Wotton page was for the right reasons. I have given up on trying to add Michael Wotton to wikipedia, so I see no reason for blocking me. This seems to be another abuse of power.
Decline reason:
You were blocked because your username resembles that of a well known living person and no proof has been offered that you are that person. No admin is abusing powers right here and now. -- HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 16:26, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
He actually said that I have been blocked REGARDLESS of username. Anyway, my name is Ronnie Rosenthal - what proof do you want? The footballer is named Ronny and can hardly be called a celebrity - do you know what he is doing these days? I am certainly not claiming to be the footballer - he played for Spurs, a team I dislike! This needs reviewing again! Ronnierosenthal 12:06, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
