NAS external links
[edit]Rvillarreal267, slow down please. A few things. First, please write "External links", without the capital "L"--that's the WP:MOS for you. Second, when I check that link a security risk warning pops up--I don't know if that's a big deal or not but it disrupts the reading. Now, I looked at the one for Josef Fried and it seems useful to me, but here is the thing: it would, for many of the articles, much more useful to add the documents as references, and not just dump them in the "External links" section, which is kind of a throwaway when it's a valid document that can help flesh out articles. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 17:57, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Drmies, thank you very much for the tips. I will add the documents under references as indicated. I just need to take additional training to do so as i wouldn't want to disrupt other files. Rvillarreal267 (talk) 18:04, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Rvillarreal267. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page National Academy of Sciences, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. It seems to me that you may have a conflict of interest. That's not a bad thing, but it's something other editors should be aware of. Please document any COI you might have, following the procedures in the policy/guidelines linked in this template. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 17:59, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- on this matter, the purpose of linking the member Wikipedia page to their biographical memoir is to share the data we have collected on our end so others can edit and expand the member's Wikipedia page. There is really no other purpose to this task that i am doing. If this is not permitted at all i would have to inform my organization so the board is aware Wikipedia has different policies in regards to public sharing. Rvillarreal267 (talk) 18:08, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Rvillarreal, the point is not that it's not allowed--the point is that it needs to be declared. From your words I gather you have a conflict of interest--you need to declare that. I asked this earlier but you went on and made more of those edits anyway. Besides that, these edits are no different from earlier edits, except that you called the section "references" rather than "external links", but that is not an improvement. PLEASE find specific text in those articles, or write it, that is then verified by the things you are linking. But right now the most important thing is to declare that COI, properly, as outlined in the policy--and I can't help but think that you didn't actually read those pages, or you wouldn't have mentioned "permitted"... COI editing is not forbidden, but there are things you have to do. Drmies (talk) 23:33, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
