Are we settling on Arbitration Referrals Subcommittee (ARS)? AGK 19:02, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I personally like that - anything to get away from "forced mediation" would be good. We should probably start using a new term ASAP. Ryan PostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 22:05, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed; the name is giving some quite false impressions. A page move would probably be in order, but I'm reluctant to do so without your agreement, considering it's your userspace, Ryan. AGK 08:05, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved it, BOLDly going... KillerChihuahua?!? 23:12, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. That last name was dreadfully off-mark. AGK 23:12, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've ventured to insert this proposal at User:AGK/Resolving disputes (→#Arbitration—Mediation?), to give an idea of how this proposal might slot in amongst the current DR system. (Naturally, I've prefaced it with an explanation that it's purely a proposal as it stands.) AGK 22:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Procedure[edit]

If I understand correctly, the procedure would be, simply put, that ArbCom wants to be able to toss stuff in our direction. That being the case, what is the point of the bit under The procedure for referring matters to the Subcommittee is as follows:? If someone wants ordinary mediation, they simply file as usual, yes? All that verbiage reads to me as though someone would be going thru the motions of filing via ArbCom, rather than either filing with MedCom as has been done in the past or ArbCom sending a case to us as better suited to MedCom than ArbCom. Someone explain to me why I should not simply remove all content below Procedure and above The procedure for receiving referrals from the Arbitration Committee is as follows:? Because it looks confusing and unecessary to me. Thanks - KillerChihuahua?!? 18:31, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was intended to be two lists of procedures: one specifying how cases are sent ("referred") to us, and one specifying what we do when we receive referrals. AGK 11:30, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why a subcommittee?[edit]

MedCom doesn't get a heckuva lot of traffic as it is. I think a direct dialogue between ArbCom and MedCom would suffice. OTOH, I understand the need for formality. I just think it's important to note that, as sub-committees go, this would be pretty informal, since the only major difference is MedCom separating regular MedCom work from MARS work... and that's almost entirely a layout thing. Everything else is internal and boring :-p Xavexgoem (talk) 18:20, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
