June 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Suneye1. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Madurai, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SUN EYE 1 16:26, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at List of cities in India by population, without citing a reliable source. Wikipedia is based on reliable sources - and the source says that the population for Madurai (M Corp.) in the 2011 census was 1,016,885. The figure of 1,470,775 is not supported by the cited source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you.-- Toddy1 (talk) 14:23, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Santhoshkavin! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Madurai that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. -- Toddy1 (talk) 14:31, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Readers must be able to check that any of the information within Wikipedia articles is not just made up. This means all material must be attributable to reliable, published sources. Additionally, quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be supported by inline citations. When you change the population data for a city, you need to cite reliable sources for that data. If you just change the numbers, it makes it look as though citations given for the old numbers support the new numbers. This goes against Wikipedia's policy of verifiability.-- Toddy1 (talk) 14:35, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Madurai, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. CodeTalker (talk) 17:04, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Madurai. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

  5. 13:26-14:19, 28 June 2021
  6. 16:53, 28 June 2021

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. -- Toddy1 (talk) 19:13, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Madurai metropolitan area, you may be blocked from editing. -- Toddy1 (talk) 20:18, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at List of metropolitan areas in Tamil Nadu, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not delete cited content without explanation and please do not change the population figures without providing a source.-- Toddy1 (talk) 20:24, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! -- Toddy1 (talk) 20:25, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of edit warring noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Thank you. -- Toddy1 (talk) 16:03, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring at Madurai, failure to respond to concerns[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for Disruptive editing.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

The full report is at the edit warring noticeboard. We notice that there is a steady stream of editors who want to modify the population numbers of South Asian cities. Generally a change in a number should be made *only* when accompanied with a link to a new source where that modified number can be found. You didn't source your changes. The fact that you made no response to any of the complaints on your talk page suggests that you don't see any need to convince others that your changes are correct. Any admin can lift this block if they become persuaded you will follow policy in the future. EdJohnston (talk) 19:14, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
