I think you mean recent changes, not related changes, right? --Marek Koudelka (talk) 12:44, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to years

[edit]

Hello and a belated welcome to English Wikipedia! You've linked 1861 in the article Cynodont: per WP:YEARLINK and WP:OVERLINK, we don't usually link to year articles, especially when they have no connection to the article. Wiki links are to help readers better understand the article they're reading, not take them in an entirely new direction. If you want to link to a year, a better option is linking to something like 1861 in paleontology, although even that currently doesn't mention Cynodonts at all, so I don't think it helps readers to link from the article. I'm sure there are differences between Czech Wiki and English Wiki: let me know if you have questions or difficulty, and be sure to check out WikiProject Paleontology and WikiProject Animals! Lastly, if someone reverts an edit and you object, it's better to disucss it rather than repeatedly make the edit: that can lead to unpleasant edit warring. Again, welcome. --Animalparty-- (talk) 08:03, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also: The same logic applies to linking to countries and continents: we can assume most readers know generally about South America or Belgium and linking to those articles does not help to clarify Cynodonts (although true many editors like to link to countries, but this doesn't mean that they should). Cheers. --Animalparty-- (talk) 08:12, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We call it "overlinking" WP:OVERLINKING Zyxwv99 (talk) 13:42, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
