HUAMBO TOURIST ATTRACTION
[edit]Huambo is one of the leading tourist destinations in Angola. It is the capital of Huambo Province which is quite large in comparison to other provinces of the country. It covers an area of 34,270 km square. Huambo is located 220 km to the east of Benguela and 600 km to the South east of Luanda. The city is one of the well connected places in Angola making it ideal for a hassle free tour. Huambo is one of the most beautiful cities of Angola and is under the process of reconstruction and regeneration since the establishment of peace in 2002, is the main cultural, educational and economic [1] city in Angola, visited by students, business travelers and tourists. Huambo is originally the lpace of the ovimbundu tribe,[2] with a strong culture and they make up the population of the province including the country.
Places to Visit
[edit]The city is a landmark of some stunning colonial styled buildings and avenues. It has a good number of natural attractions that include beautiful parks and gardens. Parque Almirante Americo Tomas is the most significant located in the centre of the city with a children’s park, a natural reserve and a greenhouse. Important and most attractive is the Kovonogue Forest reserve with an area of 39 square km. Rivers like Keve, Caalai, Capanda, Anhara anad Cinqueta are ideal for angling while Albufeira do Cuando presents the same entrainment as in the beach areas. Dam do Ngove, is ideal for swimming, angling as well as sailing.[3]
Moro do Moco, popularly known as the Moco Hill. located at an elevation of 2,619 m above the sea level with an infrastructure that is quite ideal for tourism. The fishery at Centro de Estudos de Sacaala which is also a center of floral studies is also a place worth visiting. There are also museums where visitors can find valuable records of the history and pictures of the past, sculpture and some great specimens of art and craft reflecting the culture of the place.
Huambo in Angola is well connected with air, rail and road making it quite easily accessible.
