Thanks for the links to the helpful pages. It would really help in minimizing my mistakes in the future(i hate errors). Please I don't totally understand some of the image right laws. If lets say I want to upload an image of a notable person, do I have the right to use an image provided on his facebook public profile on wikipedia if there is none there already. Seanord (talk) 14:21, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
- If there is no freely licensed image that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose and there is no reasonable expectation that one could ever be created, then a "non-free" image can be used subject to severe restrictions. See Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria for more information. As a rule of thumb, if the person is still living, you cannot use a "non-free" image of the person merely to identify the person. There are exceptions for bands that have broken up, people who looked significantly different when they were famous (e.g. now-adult child actors), etc. but using such images usually invites close scrutiny. As far as Facebook images go, some Facebook users release photos they have taken under a Wikipedia-compatible "free" license. Those images should be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons, where they can be used by all Wikimedia/Wikipedia projects. Unless you know with 100% certainty that an image was properly released (beware of "license laundering") under a free license, I would avoid using images of living people if the only reason to use the image is to identify the person, and I would look long and hard for a suitable "free" image before using the image for any other purpose or using any image of a deceased person or of a thing that is not a person. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:44, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
My hunch about you being a sockpuppet
[edit]Hi Seanord, I suspected you because of the message you left on my talk page. (To answer your question, I believe you can edit Wikipedia on your tablet; edits you make using your tablet will count as mobile edits; I don't think the Wikipedia app in the Google Play Store allows one to login and edit. I think you need to download the Google Chrome app from the Playstore and use it to edit Wikipedia). I've never had contact with you on Wikipedia, so it was a bit strange to see you leave a message on my talk page. I am suspecting you because you have edited the same articles as Darreg. You haven't done anything disruptive, but I feel that you're sort of connected to Darreg somehow. I may be wrong, but the only thing that can disprove my hunch is a thorough look at the ip ranges of your account and Darreg's. versace1608 (talk) 23:59, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I have downloaded Google Chrome and I am editing now on my tab using desktop mode. Seanord (talk) 14:01, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Tolu Oniru
[edit]Hello Seanord,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Tolu Oniru for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Itsalleasy (talk) 02:20, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Itsalleasy: I removed the template, the listed honors may or may not be significant enough to stave off deletion through WP:Articles for deletion, but they are well over the very low bar set by WP:CSD#A7, which is the criteria you used to recommend speedy deletion. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 03:08, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Articles created recently
[edit]You need to stop creating articles that are one sentence in length. If you continue to do that, other users reviewing the articles will tag them for speedy deletion. Take your time and write better articles. Versace1608 (Talk) 03:03, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- I was made to understand Wikipedia hardly appreciate dedication and hard-work to its articles, that is the motivation for my one-sentence articles. Seanord (talk) 12:07, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- Where did you get that information from? I am pretty sure Toke Makinwa and Toolz wouldn't appreciate a one sentence biographical article. You can do better than this Seanord. I know you can. Versace1608 (Talk) 13:00, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Toke Makinwa
[edit]Hello Seanord,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Toke Makinwa for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Ireneshih (talk) 03:51, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Ireneshih: I removed the speedy-deletion template because the article does make a credible claim of significance. Consider adding {{notability}} to the page or nominating it for deletion through WP:Proposed deletion or WP:Articles for deletion if you think it does not demonstrate that this person does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:02, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Articles about living people
[edit]When creating an article about a living person, please add [[Category:Living people]] to the article. Please consider adding other relevant categories as well.
Please add {{WPBiography|living=yes}} or a similar template to the article's talk page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:04, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Stub articles
[edit]If you will be creating more very short articles ("stubs"), please read Wikipedia:Stub and add the appropriate stub-templates to the stubs that you create. Thank you. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:06, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
