March 2019[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely because the chosen username is a clear violation of our username policy – it is obviously profane, threatens, attacks or impersonates another person, or suggests that you do not intend to contribute positively to the encyclopedia (see our blocking and username policies for more information).

We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia, but users are not allowed to edit with inappropriate usernames and we do not tolerate 'bad faith' editing such as trolling or other disruptive behavior. If you think there are good reasons why these don't describe your account, or why you should be unblocked, you are welcome to appeal this block – read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. —DoRD (talk) 20:41, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I'm a little confused on what is wrong with my username. If the word "sucks" is deemed to be profane, I can and will change it to appease the admins and their rules. But if I was blocked because my username was perceived to be an attack on someone named Sean who plays guitar, well that's a little tricky because my name is Sean! I play guitar! My username is and always was meant to be some kind of a self-deprecating joke. But as I said I don't know which one of those things is the problem. I'd be happy to change my username to something like "seanplaysguitarbadly" if the word "sucks" is a problem, or to something like "seanisthenexteddievanhalen" if the problem is a perceived attack. Thanks! Seansucksatguitar (talk) 02:07, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Per below, unblocked with the conditions that they refrain from posting personal information anywhere on the site again, and that they heed the advice here. —DoRD (talk) 08:46, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@DoRD: I to am confused, how can a username that implies that the user doesn't play guitar very well, but wishes they could, be a UPOL ? - FlightTime (open channel) 02:16, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'd second that, if this name is self-depricating, it seems OK to me. The user might want to make that clear on their user page, but since the name is not an attack on another person, I don't think they need to be forced to change it. 331dot (talk) 07:40, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There was additional information, only available to oversighters now, that led me to believe that this was an attack account. If this is a self-deprecating account, as the user says, then I will be glad to unblock it. However, I must insist that they refrain from posting personal information anywhere on the site again, and that they heed the advice here. —DoRD (talk) 12:56, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DoRD: Thank you for your further explanation. - FlightTime (open channel) 15:13, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Seems fine to me, they haven't been editing about any guitarists named Sean such that the name could be construed as a personal attack. You might want to consider changing to a username which doesn't suggest that it might be an attack, such that if you did edit an article about someone named Sean nobody could misinterpret, but I can't see how policy compels it. Again, there is oversighted material that influenced my decision to block. However, I'm perfectly willing to unblock per my comments above. —DoRD (talk) 11:38, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. I didn't see the oversighted material and didn't intend to speculate on it, just commenting on the username issue from what's publicly available. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 12:42, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Seansucksatguitar, do you agree to do as DoRD states? 331dot (talk) 08:32, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, of course! Seansucksatguitar (talk) 05:04, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
