Template:Cite test

Hey there, you do know that we have {{Citation}} don't you? This basically does most of what the individual templates already do. The reason why the individual citation templates are useful is because they can be much more carefully tailored to meet specific needs rather than trying to do everything in one. Thank you very much. I was just looking at Template:Cite then I wondered why this template does not have anything. Template:Citation does not seem to cover videos or musics, does it? And I need some parameters for relvent part of video. Template:Citation has "pages" but it is not time for videos. I guess I just need to request them to add video related part then. There is another problem in Japan. For Japanese we do not use italic or " , we need a way to switch it.

As I mentioned above, I consider the individual, targeted templates more useful for several reasons. They are much easier to use (limited number of possible fields), are more focused (can more easily create a template to do a specific job, such as for the specific needs of videos or law cases), and are much easier on the servers (even when you only use a few fields of a all-in-one template, the server still has to process and include all of them, potentially causing problems when you have an article that calls on the template many times, and generally creates an undue load on the server. Not a real problem right now, but something to keep in mind.). Not to sound rude, but given that the needs of Japanese writing systems differ significantly from English, perhaps it would be best to create such a template on the Japanese wikipedia? Now I completely understand it. Since computers are fast nowadays, I forgot about burden of servers. I do not know about the detail of the system but it sounds like that it pull out all the code. Then do you think it pulls out part, too? Therefore a lighter code is better and faster for server. I totally agree with you.

The reason why I am trying to do this is that I simply did not know about Wikipedia Templates well enough. I did not find Template:Citation in Japanese Wikipedia. So I made it. This was the first time I made template for Wikipedia and I made it within a day but when I compare it with Template:Citation it is not so much defferent. However someboday who imported Template:Cite book from English version to Japanese version accused me I should not make/use Template:Citation(in Japanese) because I am too new to understand it. I did not like his snobby idea. So I tried to make English version of Template:Cite better but now I know the real Citation template is not this one. Therefore I will change my method. First of all, don't allow anyone to tell you not to do something simply because you are new, as this bordering on incivility. Beyond that, anything that is typed into the Template article will be processed by the servers, including anything inside statements. Those are simply used to determine how it displays, so it will still affect the size of the Template as it is being processed. I will say, however, that while you are learning how to build templates, you might want to create them on a subpage of your User page, such as User:Shoons/Cite test, so that people are fully aware that this is not a template to be used currently. To test, you'd do as with any other template, and simply type {{User:Shoons/Cite test}}. Hi Shoons, I see you attempted to move your cite template; however, you didn't move it to your userspace, but to another location in the Template space. Actually, you had recreated the page at Template:User:Shoons/Cite, which is not an appropriate use of the Template namespace. Thank you for voicing reason for millions of people and trying to get simple facts straight. I have collected statements from several dozens of respected engineers over the past months, who have come to the same conclusions you do, and the numbers are ever increasing. If they understand nothing else, it's a sobering thought to consider next time one looks at a ten story high building and imagining it disappearing in one second flat...
