Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Simi at BrightCHAMPS. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Deborah H. Quazzo, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 08:29, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Simi at BrightCHAMPS, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Simi at BrightCHAMPS|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. 331dot (talk) 09:38, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Have added this to my user page. Please verify. Simi at BrightCHAMPS (talk) 09:42, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have added the right template, and I've removed the errant coding on it preventing its proper display. However, it says that you are editing on your own behalf- you would be editing on your client's behalf. It must name the client and you must make this disclosure for every client you intend to contribute about. You should avoid direct edits to articles in most cases; you may instead use the article talk page to make a formal edit request(click for instructions).
I would note that we don't put the names of minor children in articles unless they merit articles themselves, for privacy reasons. Generally, names of any relatives are not mentioned in infoboxes unless they merit articles. 331dot (talk) 09:56, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

BrightCHAMPS moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, BrightCHAMPS, is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 13:01, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Simi at BrightCHAMPS", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 13:35, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Rather chasing an username that represents the name of any organization product or service I have choose the username following the guidelines. Please take a look into this matter as I believe that this username does not violate the policy because the username does not represent the name of any group or organization. Please see the comment by OrangeMike below. 331dot (talk) 10:06, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 15:58, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Human beings can have accounts here; companies such as Simi cannot. You compound the violation by adding the name of a client which you seem to be trying to promote and publicize here, again in violation of our terms and conditions. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:59, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This user has engaged in block evasion as  Confirmed socks, Dodo Dubey and Simi Sebastian for Wiki. --Yamla (talk) 12:39, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi...This is to request the administrators to unblock this account. Also requesting you to guide us on how to disclose my relation to the company? I am an employee with BrightCHAMPS. However, none of the information provided by me is promotional in nature. All of it is backed by notable references and sources. I only want to publish the article to create awareness about the company and not as an advertising or marketing attempt. Simi at BrightCHAMPS (talk) 12:44, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"create awareness about the company" this is what we call promotion. You will not be unblocked to do that. If this is your only goal here, this is the end of the line. Otherwise, tell us what you plan to write about instead, something for which you do not have a conflict of interest, and convince us you understand WP:SOCK despite earlier attempts to mislead us about your sockpuppetry and block evasion. Again, though, if your goal is to write about BrightCHAMPS, this is the end of the line. --Yamla (talk) 13:06, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. Would really help if you could help me understand how my article on BrightCHAMPS is any different from the current wiki pages of companies like Infosys, Facebook or Microsoft. I have adopted a neutral tone and have refrained from using any advertorial content. The idea here is to enable users to read everything about the company at one place without any bias. Also, would like to mention that since it a relatively new company, I have no controversies or negative PR to write about. It was not a intentional miss. Simi at BrightCHAMPS (talk) 14:50, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:COI, WP:PROMO, WP:OTHERSTUFF. Basically, those other articles aren't written by someone directly involved with the company, and most certainly aren't edited by someone aiming to "create awareness about the company". Please ensure you have read and understood the policies and guidelines we've linked you to. --Yamla (talk) 16:09, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. But if I am disclosing that I am involved with the company but also ensuring that all the content is objective in nature, how is that going against Wikipedia's policy? Is there anything else I can do to get my account unblocked? Simi at BrightCHAMPS (talk) 02:00, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! Still awaiting a reply to my previous message. Simi at BrightCHAMPS (talk) 14:45, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You will not be unblocked to write about your company. If this is your goal, this is the end of the line. If you wish to write about subject areas for which you have no conflict of interest, make a new unblock request. This will be my last response here. --Yamla (talk) 15:09, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) As you are 'involved' with the company, you cannot edit the article directly because of a conflict of interest, instead a 3rd party uninvolved editor would need to make any changes. You'll need to explain what edits you would make other than promoting your company or promoting any other subject. -- StarryNightSky11 02:23, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Would it possible for me to atleast publish the article that is saved in the draftspace currently? I won't be making any changes to it or any other subject related to the company I'm involved with. I am a content writer/editor and constantly refer to Wikipedia for information. I would like to contribute back to the community and am currently unable to do so because of the block. Simi at BrightCHAMPS (talk) 02:31, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(Non-administrator comment) It's the decision of the reviewing administrators on whether to lift your block, I'm not an admin here as yet so I cannot help you besides advice, avoid editing articles where you risk a conflict of interest, don't promote any subjects and read all the relevant Policies and Guidelines the admins reviewing your block above have linked you to. -- StarryNightSky11 02:45, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Thanks! Simi at BrightCHAMPS (talk) 02:57, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
