FINAL REFLECTIONS ON WIKIEDU: AFPRL290.26
[edit]This course did a great job at analyzing hip hop and all of its aspects. This was my first time discussing hip hop culture in depth in a classroom setting. There should be more courses similar to this because hip hop has influenced so many areas of pop culture that has inevitably forged the current direction of this generation. We also discussed the many phases of hip hop and how it has evolved. This allowed the class to understand how the changes in society shaped hip hop and vice versa.Furthermore, the section of the course in which we used Wikipedia was very helpful in understanding the power of information. In today’s society information is predominantly accessed through the internet which can be published from many different sources. The problem we discussed in class was the issue of who is actually uploading the information to be viewed. When it comes to Wikipedia we figured out that the majority of the site’s editors come from one demographic and that is tech friendly, white men. Wikipedia is an open platform, which means that anyone can become an editor. It’s open access should encourage people from different demographics to edit articles, which would eliminate such a high chance of bias. Lastly, the complex nature of hip hop can teach us all how interconnected everything is because hip hop encompasses so many different aspects that would normally be separated. Understanding these connections are essential for maneuvering through life due to your ability to see the different aspects of a situation and act accordingly to achieve a specific purpose.
