Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Sonyalea11. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:49, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

April 2016

[edit]

Information icon Please do not write or add to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Note about Radical Memoir

[edit]

I'm cleaning up your AfC draft and I'd like to ask that you not make any direct edits to the page once I'm done. You will pass notability guidelines, there's no worry about that, but the article was fairly promotional in tone and I'm worried that you may not be able to make neutral edits to the page - something that's very common with editors with a COI.

However what concerns me is this page about a class you teach, specifically this line: "Come write your story in any form: essay, letter, prose poem, manifesto, vignette, list, abecedarian, Wikipedia entry." The way that this is written comes across like you're asking them to upload original content (like stories or poems) to Wikipedia. Please be aware that while Wikipedia does work with educational facilities, the expectation is that the articles will be written about topics that would pass guidelines at WP:GNG or one of the more specific guidelines. I would highly recommend that if someone does want to write a Wikipedia entry, that you make sure to contact someone at WikiEd. I'm aware that the class has already passed, but this is more in case you hold a similar class in the future. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:54, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
