- Also, thanks for trying to help out at the Teahouse, but it would be best to hold off trying to answer questions there until you have a little more experience with editing Wikipedia. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 19:49, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice! This Learn more about editing, is it a program? Squeaksqueakn (talk) 19:57, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- It's a tutorial, here on Wikipedia, that will walk you through the basics of Wikipedia editing. There's both a Visual Editor and a source editing version; you can try them both to see the differences. There's also the WP:ADVENTURE if you want something a little more exciting (though it's a bit buggy, fair warning). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 20:00, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the heads up. I will defiantly look into both. Squeaksqueakn (talk) 20:06, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

A lengthy welcome
[edit]Hi Squeaksqueakn. Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily in collaboration.
Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.
If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.
Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.
If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.
If you find yourself in a disagreement with another editor, it's best to discuss the matter on the relevant talk page.
I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal (talk) 02:26, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hey @HipalThanks for the kind words of wisdom. Just here looking to help out pages and wiki as a whole. But thanks again for reaching out. Squeaksqueakn (talk) 20:36, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Please remember to use edit summaries
[edit]Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that one or more recent edit(s) you made did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.
The edit summary field looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary, and then click the "Save" button. Thanks! --Hipal (talk) 02:44, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
The file File:AARP Logo2023.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Orphaned file that's not likely to be used. We now have a vector version of the same logo on Commons. So there's no reason to move this file to Commons, and no reason to use it here over the vector version.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ajpolino (talk) 10:34, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
