Hi Stephen

[edit]

Hi Stephen,

The Jat people page has been under heavy anon vandal attack. The Sikh article (I also worked on the Sikh article last year) was under similar anon heavy vandal attack last year but a administrator semi protected the page indefinitely and us editors were able to create a very nice article. Please can you semi-protect the Jat people indefinitely so we can do similar job of producing a very good article without these constant vandal attacks.

Many anon users have been vandalising the article including the following user who keep on vandalised the article by adding uncited info. Here are the separate occasions:

He has been warned and blocked on many occasions but still continues:

The only long-term solution is a similar one to the one done by an admin on the Sikh article Semi-protect indefinitely this allow users to build a nice article without it being destroyed by anon vandals. Once the vandal disruption is gone someone can ask for un-protection. Please can you help us out here. Thanks.—Peter johnson4 (talk) 19:11, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricane Electric is pretty damn notable

[edit]

You do know they are a major internet backbone, right? I mean, if they're not notable enough to have a Wikipedia page, then I suppose Wikipedia wouldn't see a large drop in visits if Hurricane Electric blocked wikipedia.org? Do some research, just a LITTLE, before deleting a company for "blatant advertising". --TIB (talk) 23:48, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of Forgotten Realms characters

[edit]

Hello.

I'm trying to build List of Forgotten Realms characters as a proper character list. Could you please restore the edit history of Dendar the Night Serpent and Kezef the Chaos Hound for me, and redirect them to the list so that we can merge the content in? Thanks! :) BOZ (talk) 04:59, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just changed my signature, and realised a possible problem...

[edit]

Hi! I'm a big fan of The Adam and Joe Show on 6Music. As you are possibly not familiar with it, I should explain that there is currently a craze going around that they started about always following the shout of "Stephen!" with "Coming!" or "Just Coming...". I know - rather daft. However, I decided today to have a go at changing my signature to reflect this craze. I know, I'm daft too...

Just after changing it, it occured to me to check whether or not there was anybody I could potentially be confused with, and found your good self. As we are both administrators, there might be a risk that there could end up being confusion between the two of us (me, an admin of about 6 months, and you a much more established administrator). I would like to keep my new signature, but only if you don't think there will be a problem. If you have no objection, I'd like to keep it. However, if you think there could be confusion, please let me know and I'll revert back to my old signature until I can think of something a bit better.

Oh, and I should point out that although my name is Stephen Buxton, I am not related to Adam Buxton from the show.

Thanks! Stephen! Coming... 17:25, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

vSide question

[edit]

full disclosure: I worked as a programmer on the Virtual World vSide for quite a while. and also I have not edited Wikipedia before, Please excuse my ignorance if I don't do anything in the proper fashion.

I was going to add a page for vSide and saw that there was already one that you had removed on June 11, 2008 listing A7 as the reason, I looked at the A7 rules and it looked like that wouldn't apply to software created by someone, but only to topics lauding the company itself? I can't see what the page was, so I don't know maybe it was done as some sort of sales pitch fluff piece. I'm sure that you were wise in removing what was there before!

Given the existing pages for other virtual worlds, I do think vSide has made some significant contributions... at least as many as a few of the other lesser known ones which are linked on the virtual worlds page. anyone interested in game engines, would be interested to know that making this type of virtual world with the torque game engine has been done(edit: I see it's already linked from the GarageGames website but cannot be edited). And there are quite a few threads interwoven in vSide's history that would be interesting for many other pages here. Many from entertainment industry, bands, certain tv shows, virtual lower east side (made on top of vSide), youtube, fashion designers etc.

vSide is certainly not the largest of virtual worlds, and absolutely not the best known, But it is a unique virtual world in existence that has ties to many other things in the real world. For anyone interested in studying virtual worlds, I don't understand why we should not have a page describing how this one relates to the history of virtual worlds.

I ask if you could make this page available for editing again, with a clean slate, and surely someone can do a better job on a real entry discussing vSide.

Thanks for your time and consideration, and again please excuse my ignorance in protocol if I haven't followed the Wikipedia way! Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.102.231.145 (talk) 18:35, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:COI and WP:BFAQ, about conflict of interest and writing articles about your business. If after doing so, you feel you can write a neutral article you are more then welcome to. If you want to register an account, I can give you the text from the deleted article as a start. --Stephen 21:47, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
