EMU Eagles

[edit]

Hi Stevekubacki, I removed your additions twice because your citation is in a incorrect format. While the information you provided is very interesting and informative the debate is not what the word "Huron" means. EMU changed the athletics mascot because the sole fact the mascot depicted a native American that was referred to as a Huron and it's connection with the Wyandot people. Regardless if the word history originated from something else, it was depicted and used in a way to refer to a Native Americans. Which no one on both would argue with, that is why it was changed. The team name history should focus on the history of what happened and the reasons why. Pwojdacz (talk) 01:11, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I reposted my edits with new material explaining the controversy of the logo, mascot, and use of word Huron, all three issues are at the heart of the controversy. An article about a team's name and the controversy created by selecting said names is incomplete without all elements of the controversy. Thus I added the concerns over negative stereotypes depicted in team logos and mascots. To balance the positive etymologies of Huron, I added the negative etymologies of Huron to the article, with accurate and correctly formatted citations have been made to my edits. Cheers!
