If you see me online, poke me and I'll try to add you asap. :-) Stwalkerstertalk ] 00:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

v5 is dead

[edit]

Helpmebot v5 is now dead. It began segfaulting for no apparent reason, so instead of coding v6 (in PHP) in the background, I'm going to give that a priority. Stwalkerstertalk ] 20:33, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops

[edit]

It looks like it was a mistake of mine that I just hadn't spotted. Let's see how this fares for a while... Stwalkerstertalk ] 00:41, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Idea

[edit]

I've got an idea for a new feature for Helpmebot. (I know you wanted me to add my idea at that link, but to submit an idea I would have to have an account there.) Instead of the idea where it will count the number of helpme requests done, it will count the number of questions asked. Like it will count question marks (?). Maybe it should count the sentence as one question (even if there is more than one question mark). For example: Someone says a weird sentence like: "The can floated in mid air," someones response maybe something like this: "???". So it will count that as one question and not three (the number of question marks), however, if someone actually asks three real questions, then it would have to recognize that that sentence is three questions. I don't know, but think about it.--Cubs197 (talk) 07:25, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

full wikipedia url

[edit]

hi hi. mind changing the bot prefs back to relaying the full wikipedia URL when !link is used? it can be confusing for new editors in wikipedia-en-help. much appreciated. JoeSmack Talk 05:46, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jan 2012, #wikipedia-en-help -- bot seems to have died

[edit]

Helpmebot seems to have died in #wikipedia-en-help sometime around 08/09 Jan 2012. Banaticus (talk) 21:34, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

[edit]

I want to suggest that the bot's welcome message in -en-help make it clear that helpers aren't always available. I think that saying "a helper should answer shortly" is unrealistic. How about, "Helpers are volunteers and they aren't always here, but if they're around they should answer shortly"? Pine(talk) 09:25, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Everything the bot says is controlled by a page in the Message namespace on helpmebot.org.uk. The message you want is here :) [stwalkerster|talk] 15:27, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

!helper issue

[edit]

The !helper issue has reoccurred. If !helper is typed in #wikipedia-en-help, the message appears there to, rather than in -helpers. Mdann52 (talk) 19:00, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Stop cloggin chat

[edit]

Helpmebot is great for welcoming new users but it really does clog up the chat a wee bit. Wouldn't it be better if you noticed the new user?? I spoke to someone in #wikipedia-en-help and the agreed that it was a bit annoying GingerGeek (talk) 18:07, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
