Who invented surfing

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Who invented surfing, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 23:15, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will not engage in discussion of an article deletion through private e-mail, as you requested. The spirit of Wikipedia is that work of any kind on any article, including deletion discussions, be caried out in the open where anyone can comment. My rationale has been made public in my vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Who invented surfing, and any further comments I have on this matter will be posted there. I suggest you do the same. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 16:44, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've found the deletion discussion. This is where the article's fate will be decided. My comments there, as well as those of numerous other editors, will tell you what you need to know. The main problem seems to be whether or not the sources you have provided qualify as reliable sources. The original problem was that there were no sources provided at all for anyone ot verify your information, but you fixed that. I think the main issue now is whether or not the info you've provided is notable enough for an article of its own, or whether we should take some of this information and merge it into the main article about surfing.
As you have done already, you can add your comments to the deletion discussion. After five days, an administrator will look at the discussion and come to a decision whether to keep the article as it is, merge all or part of it into another article, or delete your article entirely.
By the way, you're not a "Wiki-idiot" — you're just new. Virtually all of the administrators and experienced editors at Wikipedia went through this exact same process on our first articles, so don't be discouraged. You've contributed some useful information here. I'm even considering changing my vote, given the additional info you've cited. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 04:40, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We wait for the discussion to end. At this point, it will likely be decided to merge this into the main Surfing article, but it could be decided to delete altogether. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 14:52, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Replies to your comment concerning copyright infringements can be found at the AFD discussion page for this article. Thanks. - CobaltBlueTony 14:20, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, I'm really not trying to bite, but this screencap of your references website proves it. That whole paragraph is just copypasted into your article. That constitutes a copyright violation. It needs to be reweritten. - CobaltBlueTony 15:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I see it has been edited out. You can still cite the references; just not copypaste them. That's all I was saying. - CobaltBlueTony 15:28, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 02:40, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who invented surfing

[edit]

It is good that you manage to find references. I believe the most of the references are okay. However, I think that you need to remove the page that you claim that you made. Other editors will question that reference as conflict of interest or original research which is bad. I change my vote to merge. Don't worry about your article getting deleted. The information remains intact as a proper section (in this case a part of the history section of surfing).

Oh by the way, you should have a user page so that people will know your interest and might help you or request for your help regarding your interests. You could add this to your userpage:

{{User:UBX/surfer}}

"Challenging information"

[edit]

As I have said before, I will not answer your questions regarding your articles via private e-mail. All communications regarding the status of Wikipedia articles such as History of Surfing should be conducted on the talk pages of the articles themselves, or the talk pages of the editors involved.

As for your question of why I am "challenging information" regarding the history of surfing, I'm not sure which specific article you are referring to, or what "challenge" you mean, but I listed my concerns abot the article in my previous messages on this talk page, as well as in the article-for-deletion discussion process. I don't know what more I can add. You might want to send a message to Sandstein, as he or she was the administrator who actually deleted your article. He can give you some pointers on what happened and why. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 03:31, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
