Hi Swetipi.

Thank you for some useful work on the Midhurst page. We need more local Wikipedians. A lot of what you are now adding however seems to be your own observations, i.e. original research, and belongs on a local website rather than on Wikipedia, which only uses previously published material from reliable published sources, preferably third party sources. Please avoid editorial commentary and material which is trivial or unsourced. Please take some time to read our policies and guidelines on what Wikipedia is and is not. Happy editing.Charles (talk) 07:11, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Charles Thanks for your message. I appreciate you keeping an eye on things. I have tried to be careful with attribution because I totally identify with the need for it. I will comb through and remove trivia, opinion and un-referenced material. I think part of the issue may be that I chose to copy and paste directly from websites, and some of them, eg SDNPA, express opinion. I will take another look. I hope you will let me know if you feel stuff needs further work. I'm very new to this game. Not even sure I have formatted this reply correctly. Thanks again. Er...copy and pasting from other websites is absolutely not on. It is copyright violation and is a big no-no here. When using information from sources we have to write it in our own words, avoiding close paraphrasing.Charles (talk) 18:54, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. In my line of biz it's a must do, to avoid misrepresentation! However all changed and editing on-going.All the bestSwetipi (talk) 21:02, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It struck me you may find this page useful. Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements. It is guidance rather than hard and fast policy but it helps editors and readers if we all follow the same format.Charles (talk) 08:16, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. Thank you. I have also been checking out the Sussex County project.--Swetipi (talk) 12:28, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Charles. Would you say its better to do one large edit with details in the Edit Summary, keeping the list of edits manageable, or do several smaller edits, each dealing with a distinct point? Thanks for your help --Swetipi (talk) 17:28, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I try to find a middle way between a lot of trivial edits and too many things under one umbrella. Wikipedia prefers us to work on one section of the page at a time as the servers have less info to send that way. It is easier for other editors to see what has been done if it is in smaller chunks and there does not seem to be any problem with how many versions are in the page history. I nearly always use the preview button to see how it looks before saving. Hope this is some help.Charles (talk) 10:05, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on editing added to an article page

[edit]

On theMidhurst article page you have on several occasions added comments such as 'Section to be completed' or '(data to be added)'. It is better to make such remarks on the Talk page and not to add text to the article that is incomplete. No rush. Best wishes SovalValtos (talk) 21:16, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
