If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on We own the sky requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Syrthiss (talk) 12:27, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some explanation

[edit]

Hey, Truefame. To be honest, I don't think there really is a way to improve the We own the sky article to a point where it can be kept. Y'see, the problem isn't that the article is written poorly or anything like that; the problem is that I don't think the subject isn't notable, and that can't really be fixed by rewriting the article. Notability is the minimum standard that subjects must meet to have an article about Wikipedia; you can get some more specific guidance on notability for bands here.

Just so you know, notability isn't something we arbitrarily pulled out of the sky; the purpose (or at least one of them) of the notability standard is to make sure we have enough material to write about in our articles without straying from our standard of verifiability. By verifiability, we mean that all the information that we have on Wikipedia must be able to be verified by the user by looking it up in reliable sources. Subjects that aren't notable just don't have the kind of coverage in reliable sources that we need to write a full article, so we just can't have an article about them.

Don't worry, though! Lots of people have their first articles deleted, especially for reasons of notability; nobody will hold it against you! It can be a pretty tricky thing to judge. And although the band might not be notable now, it could become notable in the future; it's just a matter of waiting for them to do it in their own right. So hang around; Wikipedia can be a pretty fun place once you get the hang of it! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page, or you can try asking a question at the Teahouse, where the hosts (of which I'm one) will be happy to give you an answer. Thanks!
