Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Taylercumings. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 00:24, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Taylercumings,
I'm sorry that you lost your mother but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with referenced articles about notable subjects, as Wikipedia understands notability. While I'm sure this subject was of great importance to you, Wikipedia is a global resource and unless you have additional references from major mainstream news sources, she is not considered notable for Wikipedia. However there are lots of other online websites and blogs for these types of "In Memorium" posts where you can tell the world about this important person. Most of them, as well as personal websites and blogs, are free but they do not have all of the policies and guidelines that help Wikipedia function. I encourage you to explore other ways where you are free to express yourself and share your experiences.
If you have any questions about Wikipedia policies or editing on this platform, please bring them to the Teahouse where experienced editors can offer you advice and support. Good luck! Liz Read! Talk! 00:29, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
