Hello. I am a designated online Wikipedia online volunteer for the Neurobiology (Spring 2014) ‎class in which you have enrolled. Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have about how to use or edit Wikipedia. I can be reached by posting at User talk:DESiegel. You could also post any questions at the Help desk, which is a page for anyone with a question about how to edit Wikipedia. DES (talk) 15:43, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, and one tiny niggle...

[edit]

Hi Tgmarquette, welcome to Wikipedia. I'm your other online ambassador; if DESiegel isn't around, you're very welcome to come to me for assistance (just leave a message on my talkpage). I thought I'd better alert you to one potential issue you may run up against; because your username contains the name of your university, you might find yourself getting unexpected warnings from other users if you make any edits pertaining to Marquette. I mention this because, whilst I personally think your username is permissible under Wikipedia's username guidelines, it could be construed as promotional (similar usernames are often blocked for precisely that reason).
Two easy solutions are available: option one, request a change of username (just click that link and follow the instructions). Option two, ignore it, and refer anyone who does have a problem with your name to me - I'm happy to explain why I think it's in line with policy. Since you aren't here to advertise Marquette the problem may well never arise, but I thought it best to give you a heads-up just in case it ever does. All the best, Yunshui  14:24, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Yunshui that this may come up. As it happens I am something of a regular in dealing with such issues, and think you are quite clearly not in violation of Wikipedia's polices on this subject. If anyone raises the issue, feel free to refer them to me or point them to this message. I don't think you need bother about a change of username. DES (talk) 14:30, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Or just leave these messages on your talkpage: two admins saying, "yeah, this username's okay" should dissuade even the most zealous of username reporters... Yunshui  14:33, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
