Discussion Over Your Username.[edit]

There is a discussion over your username here at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names. You may wish to participate. Acalamari 21:43, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies: I posted your username there because I was unsure of it's legality on Wikipedia. If you're going to be a decent editor to Wikipedia, then I am truly sorry for this confusion. Acalamari 03:22, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The community has come to the consensus that your name is fine, enjoy! HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 05:37, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Theangryblackwoman, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!  Sarah 04:00, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I second Sarah's welcome. I am sorry that your first experience of Wikipedia has been to be dragged into this dispute. I hope that in spite of this, you will stay and contribute to this encyclopedia. Despite the unfortunate first-impression I suspect you have had, I assure you that editors around here are extremely friendly (if occasionally too easily caught up in minor dramas!). Best wishes, WJBscribe 04:23, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Debate?[edit]

ABW---I read about this whole rigamarolle over your username, and I just gotta say---that was some racist sexist horseshit. If that whole debate didn't prove how disturbingly real white folks' fear of people of color is, I don't know what does.--Pinko1977 17:35, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read our WP:USER policy, the concern was not about the color of her skin. That is a ridiculous misinterpretation of the debate. You can look through our archives and see that such heated debates occur about many things. It is not personal, or racial. Thank you. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 17:41, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
HighInBC, in a way, the debate was indeed about the color of my skin. Black is an indication of race and skin color, and Acalamari did state "The main problem is having race and an extreme emotion in one username." Just because you guys often fight about trivial things doean't mean that the discussion of MY name wasn't racially motivated. The concern, as the OP stated it, was that because I was black and angry and chose to express that it meant that I was at high risk for causing problems, just by being who I am. Or, at least, by the perception of who I am based on the name I chose. Theangryblackwoman 21:29, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot speak for all of the editors involved. However, I think primary concern was the angry part. I personally saw no problem with your name. In the past, users have taken the name of a race or ethnic group solely to disparage that group, this is why we discuss such names. If it was racially motivated, know that it was not due to any specific race, or necessarily concerning your behavior.
Of course, I am only speaking for myself. I personally would be rather annoyed if someone bothered me about my name. I hope you are not too discouraged. Being on open encyclopedia means we are subjected to all sorts of people, we try to block egregiously uncivil people so if you ever have a problem, you can talk to me on my talk page and I will help. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 21:35, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did not post the name to RFC because this user is black or a woman. If the user had been "Theangrywhiteman," I still would have posted it. I object to Pinko1977's accusations of racism and sexism. There was no prejudice involved. I just wasn't sure about the name. Since the name is fine, I'm not concerned anymore. Acalamari 22:42, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, Angryblackwoman, I am sorry that incident happened. People who continue to bring the issue up won't help anyone. Please accept my apology for the incident. Acalamari 22:47, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

Welcome! futurebird 03:00, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am a friendly white man. If you ever have any questions or need help with Wikipedia or D-Bag Users, just let me know. Thanks. --Chris Griswold () 09:58, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

Thank you so much for your help with that IfD, It's nice to see things going the right way... for once. You know, it's string to feel like there is a real community here, and I'm starting to think that the wikipedia can be the kind of place that, with some work, people will be able to trust for real information... even on controversial topics. I'm also glad that you're a part of WP:AFRO...If you ever need any help, just let me know. futurebird 20:13, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh[edit]

I just saw your username somewhere, and it made me grin. You're probably sick of hearing about your username by now, so that's all I'll say :) All the best from the serene brown woman. – riana_dzasta 06:14, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

I thought I'd just drop by to say hello and see how you were doing. :) Acalamari 18:29, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nom[edit]

I've just read the kerfuffle over your name here; it was hilarious. It would have been doubly interesting if there had been a Wikipedia editor called "angrywhiteman" or "furiouscaucasian" or something similar, who the administrators had not chastised, but alas there was not. According to Google I'm in the first person in the world to use the word "furiouscaucasian". I own that word. -Ashley Pomeroy 00:28, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, we lost that one[edit]

Heck, I'm a bubba, and I certainly thought the category "SF writers of color" was a useful one. If you want a venue where this kind of discussion is conducted with more sense and less incomprehension, I urge you to come to WisCon every May. (It's no accident that the Carl Brandon Society was formed after a panel discussion at a WisCon.) You'll be very welcome! --Orange Mike | Talk 13:33, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
