Some remarks

[edit]

Hello, Thephotoarchivist. Thank you for adding an image to Vinnie Ream. I think it is a good addition, with a good positioning of the image and a good caption. Yet, if I may, let me make a few remarks.

First, one should not put hyperlinks in the body of an artcile – see Wikipedia:External links.

Second, concerning the categorization of a file on Commons: you categorized this particular image in the category c:Vinnie Ream, which is totally okay, but it would be beter not to categorize it also under 'Artist' and 'Sculptor' – apart from these Categories being very general (and the first is a redirect), the Category 'Vinnie Ream' is already in these categories via c:Category:19th-century sculptors from the United States and subsequent super-categories; files should normally not be multiple times placed in a category tree (there are exceptions, for obvious reasons). [I have added the category c:Photographs by Mathew Brady.]

You will probably find that there are many rules and conventions on Wikipedia as well as on Commons, and I hope you appreciate me giving you some hints.

In case you don't know, you can follow articles you edited (or any article) by clicking on the star on top, which then becomes blue, after which it will appear on your Watchlist. If you follow the Vinnie Ream article, I think you will see pretty soon that someone will correct the hyperlinks in your caption there (in case you don't alter it yourself; I will leave it to others for now; I was already following the page, so I will keep an eye on it).

If you have any question, please don't hesitate to leave a message on my Talk page, either here or on Commons. Greetings, Eissink (talk) 19:26, 20 August 2020 (UTC).[reply]

I saw you removed the hyperlink, so thanks. It is not necessary to provide a source link in the caption (although I must say it is pretty convenient), since the source is already mentioned on Commons. On Commons, it would be good to add a hyperlink to the source description. Most archives have 'permalinks', links that are supposed to survive any future altering of the website, and NGA also gives them, right on top under Export – I will add the permalink to the source description on Commons. That's it, thought I inform you there also. Thanks, good luck, Eissink (talk) 20:23, 20 August 2020 (UTC).[reply]
