License tagging for Image:1952-53 Senior Football.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:1952-53 Senior Football.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:04, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Regarding edits made to Laois GAA

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Theram! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule laoistalk\.com, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 15:56, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inserting the link into multiple pages where it has no relevance is considered spam under Wikipedia policy. In addition, do not try to evade the block placed on your IP address by using this account to edit. Doing so will likely result in a block being placed on this account as well. Shadow1 (talk) 16:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue that the link is good and AS relevant as a Hogan Stand link or a link to a Clubs website. I was not TRYING to get around it by logging in as this account, this is my account and I had presumed I was logged in under in initially.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Theram (talkcontribs)

Then could you explain why you ignored Shadowbot's warnings to stop inserting the link? Shadow1 (talk) 16:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am new to editing wikipedia as I'm sure you will have seen from my edit history. From reading Shadowbot's FAQ & anything else I could find I presumed that if I placed a post on the bot page and reposted my link then it would be assumed the bot was incorrect and the link was valid. You have yet to explain to me the difference between the link I posted and a hogan stand link?

I would also like to take full responsibility for this accusation and not this IP address as it is one used by more than me. Any punishment you see fit to toss out, I shall take it on my account.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Theram (talkcontribs)

Simply making a post on the bot's page doesn't validate your link; you have to actually have a discussion. And generally, blog links are a bad idea, because the owner can post anything they want. See the external link guidelines for more information. Veinor (talk to me) 16:38, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And where can this debate be carried out? You still have to explain to me the difference between the link and a GAA club website or the HoganStand website however? I would like to take this further still and argue my point. Ram— Preceding unsigned comment added by Theram (talkcontribs)

WP:EL has a talkpage, if you want to discuss the policy. I guess they will tell you the same as what you are told here. By the way, that other links are there does not mean you are allowed to add more, it might even be that the other links should not be there, but that has to be evaluated on a case by case basis. If you really believe that your link adds info to the page, discuss its addition on the talkpage of the page you want the link on. Thank you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:02, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So why has the block not been lifted on the IP address. You all agree that this was an oversight on my behalf, I should go make my case for the link, yet the block is still there?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Theram (talkcontribs)

You can ask for an unblock, or wait until it is finished. We don't all have the power to unblock. By the way, please WP:SIGN your posts. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:15, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And where do I ask for an unblock? Theram 17:19, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Add the template {{unblock}} to the talkpage (read instructions there, you need to supply a reason). Hope this helps. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:22, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nah not really, sounds like a lot of hard work to me Theram 17:41, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding edits to a.o. Timahoe GAA

[edit]

Per the external links guideline, external links should be pertaining the subject, not something broader or narrower than the subject. You are now adding a lot of external links to a lot of pages, where their relevance is not visible, and actually it looks like you are adding a forum (another site which is generally to be avoided per WP:EL). I have reverted the edits, I guess you should discuss this with e.g. a wikiproject. Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:06, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see, it is indeed a wider site, containing also news about the pages you added the link to. If there is a specific part of the site dedicated to the club, then that part should be linked, not the whole site. Hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:11, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see this discussion was held before, hence:

This is the only warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Timahoe GAA, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing their websites from appearing on Wikipedia. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:18, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
