Varieties of English[edit]

Hello there. I just wanted to make sure that you are aware of WP:ENGVAR, which is our policy on English spelling differences. I undid some of your changes along those lines – we really would not use AmE spellings in an article about Baron Whoever of Wherever, any more than I would go to Chevrolet articles and "correct" the spellings to "tyres"! ENGVAR is well worth a look and helps avoid pain in editing life – I hope you find it useful. With all good wishes. DBaK (talk) 08:57, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Barren Jack Creek Water Supply Dam, reordering citations[edit]

While it might seem aesthetically pleasing to reorder citations so they appear in number order eg [3][4] rather than [4][3], it breaks the relationship between text and citation (which the person who originally added it knows and other people generally don't). See WP:INTEGRITY. As the person who drafted that article, the citation to the NSW State Heritage Register should always appear last as it is citation for the whole paragraph and not merely part of it. Because there is no way to represent the extent of a citation (that text which it supports) in Wikipedia, you generally cannot know why someone else cited in the place or order that they did, but it is meaningful and should be left alone as the policy states. This is not an easy thing to explain so if you don't understand it, don't worry, the simple message is don't reorder citations. 10:18, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Links[edit]

Hello, just to let you know that your links added here were unfortunately both wrong. I've reverted them for you, and I'm just telling you in the hope that it helps you to check when adding. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 11:36, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2019 election voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:23, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

June 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Trello does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edits to Robinhood (company), please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history, as well as helping prevent edit conflicts. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the article will look like without actually saving it.

The Show preview button is right next to the Publish changes button and below the edit summary field.

It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. No need to make so many intermediate edits. Also, please use the edit summaries. GreaterPonce665 (TALK) 04:40, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
