OTRS[edit]

Please contact WP:OTRS about removing your name from the page, they will have a way to verfiy you are who you say you are and better handle your request. LakesideMinersCome Talk To Me! 15:39, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please refer to the Wikipedia page titled T.H. Tse.

This is Professor T.H. Tse in person. I do not authorize Wikipedia to publish my fullname “Tse T***-H**”. This is for a legitimate practical reason. I always publish papers using my abbreviated name. Occasionally, some publishers managed to dig out my full name and unilaterally changed their digital library entries. As a result, my h-index and other citation statistics are unduly lowered. I do not want to encourage this by showing my fullname in Wikipedia.

However, LakesideMiners reinstated my fullname on the Wikipedia page. They requested me to contact you to verify who I am first:

  • Please contact WP:OTRS about removing your name from the page, they will have a way to verify you are who you say you are and better handle your request. LakesideMiners (Come Talk to Me!) 15:39, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please advise accordingly.Thtse.hku (talk) 09:55, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You should click on WP:OTRS to verify your identity, as a guard against someone impersonating you- in terms of your name, that may be difficult to remove if independent reliable sources have published your name; Wikipedia articles summarize what such sources state and the authorization of the subject is not required. However, if your full name is not widely known, you can ask the oversight team to suppress it from the article(and likely from this page too). 331dot (talk) 10:38, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your information. I approached Wikipedia:Oversight, who decided to suppress my full name from Wikipedia. Thtse.hku (talk) 04:05, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Thtse.hku, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Thtse.hku", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username, by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! For the record, they have disclosed to OTRS. Primefac (talk) 18:14, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • According to the above policy, I am 'permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".' My username "Thtse.hku" falls under this category. In any case, I cannot find time for appeals. I have completed the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest asking for the change of username. -- Thtse.hku (talk) 04:07, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have revised my username to Thtse2020 accordingly, albeit with great reluctance. I wish to put on record my serious concern about the high-handed demands by Wikipedia administrators to ordinary folks. -- Thtse2020 (talk) 16:53, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest editing[edit]

Information icon Hello, Thtse2020. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page T.H. Tse, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:50, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Responses from T.H. Tse:
* Avoid Editing or Creating Articles about Yourself. The article T.H. Tse was not created by me. I seldom log in to Wikipedia and edit it. The last time I did so was August 2020, just to keep the article up to date.
* Propose Changes on the Talk Pages. I do not propose changes on the talk pages.
* Disclose Your Conflict of Interest When Discussing Affected Articles. I always state myself as T.H. Tse in the discussions. In fact, some Wiki Administrators go to the other extreme by challenging whether I am truly T.H. Tse. One can never win.
* Avoid Linking to Your Organization's Website. I don't do so.
* Do Your Best to Comply. Yes, I do. For example, the book cover in question has been advertised by the publisher and prominent booksellers since September 2022. My current posting is just to help Wikipedia report the real world situation, rather than for advertisement. I declare that I do not receive any compensation from the book cover design.

Since File:Cover of "Handbook of Software Fault Localization".jpg is now VRT verified, there should be no problems regarding its copyright status and the file shouldn't be removed for that reason alone. However, the file's encyclopedic relevance to the article could, as I posted elsewhere, still be challenged by someone and the file removed because of that. If that happens, please don't simply re-add the file because doing so will likely lead to more discussion about your COI and could mistakenly be seen as an attempt at "self-promotion". What you should do in that case is to start a discussion about the file's use in the article at Talk:T.H. Tse and make an edit request that it be re-added. In addition, if as you posted above some Wiki Administrators go to the other extreme by challenging whether I am truly T.H. Tse, you can also request that Wikimedia VRT verify your identity. This is similar to what you did when you emailed VRT about your copyright ownership of the book cover. VRT might even be able to do this based on the email you've already sent. Basically, a VRT member verifies you are who you're claiming to be and then adds Template:Verified account to your user page. Most likely you received an email from VRT telling you it received your last email. You probably could simply respond to that and ask them to verify your identity as well. You could also request as much by posting at WP:VRTN though email keeps things private. The "Verified account" template would also serve as a WP:DISCLOSECOI template and it should eliminate any future concerns about your identity. You'll still be expected to follow COI guidelines when editing, but at least there should be no more doubts expressed about you being T.H. Tse. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:04, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks to Marchjuly for your kind advise. I will proceed accordingly should the needs arise.
BTW, Wikimedia VRT actually verified my identity back in 2020, when I asked Wikipedia to remove my personal data discovered from the web by some excessively inquisitive editor.
