Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Tmcswain, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as The Night Terror, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 14:04, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Night Terror has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion that this book meets our inclusion guidelines at this point; no evidence of critical review from a reputable source.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 14:04, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Night Terror by Timothy J. McSwain has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

Wikipedia is not for self-promotion

[edit]

I have deleted the second article as a duplicate of the first.

You wrote on the article talk page: "This is a book that exists. It's on the market and selling. There is nothing that is untrue in this article so I am completely confused as to why this is a problem." The fact that a book exists is not enough for it to have an article. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is selective about article subjects, and is extremely resistant to being used for self-promotion, or any kind of promotion. We do not explain this very well in advance, but to understand it better, see:

Note that you are entitled to remove the Proposed Deletion template from the article, but it is likely that it would then be nominated at WP:Articles for deletion, which would start a discussion lasting seven days, to which you could contribute. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aces High @ 23 Wall Street is an example of a similar discussion of an article posted by its author about a recently-published book .

Good luck with your book, but Wikipedia is not a place to advertise it. JohnCD (talk) 15:03, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
