Sourcing

[edit]

In this set of edits, you have admirably transformed one of hundreds [groan] of dreary, robotically generated non-articles on Japanese photographers into something worth reading. Thank you!

Trouble is, all of this has to be sourced. It all looks credible to me, and for all I know much of it is in the page on the man that will be in the little paperback encyclopedia of Japanese photographers that was already cited. (Unfortunately, I've mislaid my copy of this.) So I'm not saying it's not true. But however credible it may be, it all has to be sourced. (Yes, editing Wikipedia is a pain.) Various pages tell you how to do this, but perhaps the quickest way to understand it is to open a second window or tab in your browser and in it click on the "Edit" button for a compact but dutifully sourced article on a related subject (here's one), and see what's done in that.

If you need help, ping me. -- Hoary (talk) 01:46, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Hoary, as a novice to Wikipedia I`m likely to be breaking all kinds of protocols, unwittingly. But with good guidance from you and others I`ll try and improve to meet the appropriate standards. I`m trying to build up the sources and references to Seiryū Inoue as a start. By the way, I`m very impressed with all the work I now see that you have already produced in Japanese photography. Tokyofoto (talk) 00:00, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the kind words. I don't think I've done much, but I do plead innocent to any charge of having perpetrated hundreds of stupid little non-articles saying only that this or that person was a "renowned" Japanese photographer (I loathe these). I've started improving a number of these articles, as you may have noticed, but have seldom got very far: I quickly tire or get bored. Recently I've been interested in a number of photographers who escaped the notice of that little paperback on 328 people; one example is Shunji Dodo. ¶ So anyway, ask if you have any questions. Although now I must be off to (paid) work. -- Hoary (talk) 00:16, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Very perceptive of you Hoary. Now you have given me a mission. Shunji Dodo it is..though his page already looks fairly thorough. I trust that you will keep me on the straight and narrow.Tokyofoto (talk) 00:58, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dodoes . . . one is already covered (though indifferently), but at least two more are still unrepresented. -- Hoary (talk) 00:15, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
