Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. [1] MrOllie (talk) 16:08, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I added content to 2 pages that was relevant to the topics and greatly expanded on the content that was included. The additions are well researched and detailed.
I thought we were supposed to support all additions to informative pages by citing sources... Verginasun (talk) 17:13, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are clearly spamming /levysfinejewelry.com as a source not to help Wikipedia but to promote a business. What is your relationship with that entity? Chris Troutman (talk) 17:15, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I work for that entity.
I have spent the past 3 years extensively researching the topic of diamond cutting, and I just added a section to our website with 39 articles that is the most extensive history of diamond cutting that exists anywhere. I am adding relevant information because it is helpful to users. Because I have spent to much time working on this and because I value Wikipedia and respect history, I wanted to include additional information that could help tell the story of diamond cutting from different avenues.
Please read the information on the pages I am referencing. It is relevant, and includes a lot of information not included anywhere on Wikipedia.
If you have such a problem with the links, keep the content and remove the links. It's good content that provides significant value for the articles in question. Verginasun (talk) 17:19, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We can't accept self-published sourcing such as business websites or blogs as sources. And we also cannot accept unsourced content per WP:V. To be good content that provides significant value it has to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, including WP:V and WP:RS. MrOllie (talk) 17:22, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am an expert on this specific topic. Why am I not allowed to include relevant information?
Again, you can delete the links. I don't care about the links. I am confused as to why I am not allowed to make revisions to pages by adding relevant content that is not currently discussed on the pages. Verginasun (talk) 17:25, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have spent 3 years researching this topic. I am genuinely adding value to the page. If you don't like the links, at least keep the content additions. It's good content. Verginasun (talk) 17:27, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As you admit a conflict of interest, you should not be adding links or content from your employer to here. Nobody here cares about your claimed expertise. The content you write must be drawn from independent, reliable sources. We cannot accept your thinly-veiled business promotion as meaningful contribution. Please remember that as you're paid to spam, our volunteer edits write this encyclopedia without pay or even a simple thank you. Chris Troutman (talk) 17:25, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not paid to spam. I am proud of the research I have done on this topic. Once again, remove the links and keep the content. It's good content. Verginasun (talk) 17:28, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's only good content for wikipedia if it is properly cited in a way that meets site requirements. MrOllie (talk) 17:30, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The "diamond cutting" does not provide valuable information in it's current. It needs to be broken into 2 dozen or more individual pages. In it's current form it is vague and does not provide good information on any diamond cuts because it is trying to provide weak information on all of them.
I am done trying to contribute to Wikipedia. I value this service, but this explains why so many pages lack good information. People who are incentived to become genuine experts on topics are not allowed to reference their own work. Verginasun (talk) 17:37, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.
