Notability of Gauti B. Eggertsson[edit]

A tag has been placed on Gauti B. Eggertsson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 22:20, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I apologise for "templating the regulars", as I see you are an experienced contributor, but I really don't think the article, referenced only to his employer's page, indicates notability. He may be a rising man, but per WP:UPANDCOMING, we should wait until he has risen. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:24, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I'm assuming that the Hovgaard book supports the claims in your "Design issues" section. If so, it would be good to attach this as an inline citation to "References" at the end of the para, giving the text greater credibility. I can do this, but I thought I'd put it past you first. Thanks. Yes, all I did was briefly paraphrase what Hovgaard said. (I could of course quote in extenso, since there is no copyright issue, but I thought that seemed out of place here.) I'm a little bit unsure of how to cite it. It's really an article in a published work -- the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers published all the papers and discussions presented at their annual meeting in a Transactions volume. (They still do.) The link I put in References is to the Transactions volume not directly to the Hovgaard article. Will O'Neil (talk) 02:41, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
