Edit Suggestions by Wikipedia

Hello! I'm curious about how I can receive article suggestions from Wikipedia for the purpose of editing. I recall that when I first joined, Wikipedia used to recommend articles categorized by the difficulty level for me to edit. It felt like a helpful step-by-step guide to becoming a more proficient editor. Editorwiikii001 (talk) 07:11, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

I found Wikipedia:Articles for improvement. That's probably a good place to start. Good luck. signed, Willondon (talk) 19:23, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Littlehampton media

Hi, none of the broadcast services mentioned supply programming specifically for Littlehampton, unlike the local newspapers. They are better dealt with at county level. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 18:57, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Where I live, national networks (government and corporate both) usually comprise a number of affiliated media outlets which provide regional news in local markets. Typically, a network provides the same programming for all of its regional affiliates, except for select periods of time where local interests and news are covered. Maybe things don't work that way in this case. I won't bother to put it back again if you think it really doesn't belong there. Thanks for the note. signed, Willondon (talk) 19:03, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Doesn't work like that here, so-called local news is handled on a regional basis that doesn't scale down to small town level. Larger towns may have local radio stations but that doesn't apply in this case. Regards Murgatroyd49 (talk) 19:06, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Pashto language edit Native Speakers

The native speakers for Pashto language is got to be approximately 65 million. No way its 54 million speakers its has more number of speakers. Rjay129856 (talk) 19:12, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

Is there a reliable source Wikipedia can point to to support that change? Where did you get "65 million" from? signed, Willondon (talk) 19:13, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
There is got to be more speakers in this language. Rjay129856 (talk) 19:15, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
Wikipedia doesn't include data based on an editor's educated guess that there has to be more than that. It's a bit of a long read, but Wikipedia:Reliable sources lays out the fundamental basis for verifying information and establishing its notability. In short, if an edit cannot point to a reliable source that will support it, its chances of staying in Wikipedia are severely diminished. signed, Willondon (talk) 19:43, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

I hesitate to ask if you can explain what you're talking about. Usually, people who accuse you of being a weirdo with too much free time are ironically, well... (see "get a life") signed, Willondon (talk) 00:09, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Disruptive editing by 37.134.222.127 at "Portuguese language" article

Hi there, is there any way we can preemptively block this user from editing Portuguese language without further warning? They've done enough damage and based on previous instances, it's likely they'll do it again even after multiple warnings on their talk page. Thanks, appreciate your feedback. Yekshemesh (talk) 17:40, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

The next step would be a report at WP:AIV, which I will do if I'm online and see them do it again. I've just recently placed a "final" warning on their page. I was going to report, but it's been the only edit today, and there were only three warnings. It's a myth that a user is required to receive a fourth and final warning before reporting, but some administrators reject the report as "insufficiently warned" in that case. Now the downside of my "final" warning is that some administrators reject a report if there hasn't been any editing since the final warning was issued. Oh, well, everything's loaded and ready to go if there is (probably will be) a next time. signed, Willondon (talk) 17:47, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Cheers. Looking forward to booting this person out. Yekshemesh (talk) 18:35, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

Why are you delete my edit

Romani are Indian descent people who to Europe during Medieval era Oilcocaine (talk) 15:49, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

As you posted this, I simultaneously posted a question on your talk page. I prefer to follow the issue there. At least, we should keep discussion in one place. Thank you. signed, Willondon (talk) 15:54, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Small question re: Template:Reflist-talk

I saw you added a space between the closing }} and opening <!-- with edit summary fix 'reflist-talk' use (diff). Since I had added that particular instance of it, I'm genuinely curious what that fixes since, as near as I can tell, it doesn't change the rendered markup and the example in Template:Reflist-talk/doc has no space. Thanks! Skynxnex (talk) 19:05, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Not sure what's going on. I think the software mismanaged our concurrent editing. Before you added it, the links were collected at the bottom [1]. After you added it (18:47) [2], ummm... the link placement was fixed like you wanted. When I made my "fix" (18:50), the page was putting the links at the bottom, I swear, even with a lot of "Show preview" as I tried to figure out why the reflist-talk "wasn't working". I tried adding the space, and "Show preview" then showed it working properly. Just now I took the space out again (didn't save it, though), and the preview still showed it working. Best guess is that (1) Seasider53 posted (links showing at bottom, hence their comment), (2) I opened an edit screen, and while I was dealing with it (3) you opened an edit screen and added the proper fix, (4) I saw your reflist-talk in the markup, but the "Show preview" still showed the links at bottom for some reason, (5) I made my unnecessary "fix".... (7) profit. Cheers. signed, Willondon (talk) 19:28, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Yes, that seems very likely. Happy it's sorted and was just edit conflict-like confusion and there wasn't anything I was missing. I also just noticed you were thoughtful enough to let Seasider53 know they could amend their comment (which I had missed). Happy editing. Skynxnex (talk) 19:31, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Eddie Holman secondary source

I believe this is the secondary source you said Holman's page edits needed. Mixmaster226 (talk) 21:37, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

It's something. Your secondary source can be challenged as it's part of an interview, essentially making what the interviewee says primary sourced. Also the poetic style of writing that supplements the interview doesn't particularly speak of a journalistic approach that relies on fact-checking, or in the case of music critics, knowledgeable and sober reflection. A puff piece. If you want to use it for the article, I won't revert it. I'll probably just repeat my thoughts here on the article talk page, to see what the rest of the community makes of it. signed, Willondon (talk) 22:23, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Extended Reality (please leave it alone for the sake of my sanity and grade)

Hey there, I have been adding some edits to the Wikipedia article on Extended Reality and have noticed that you have been deleting all of my edits. I am editing this for a college class, would you be bale to leave my information there for a few days? Ajhot90 (talk) 23:33, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

I've deleted one of them, yes. It's OK when personal interests intersect with Wikipedia's interests, but Wikipedia is always going to prevail, and the articles will be curated by the community based on applying the policies and guidelines built up over the years. I don't know what your assignment requires, but Wikipedia cannot bend to it. With an account, you have access to a personal sandbox; you might be able to use that to satisfy requirements. signed, Willondon (talk) 23:44, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Gender confusion

Hi, thanks for your edits here. When it comes to games, we need to be careful about using singular "they/them/their" because it can cause confusion as to whether we are referring to one player or several of them, e.g. "the dealer deals 5 cards each and then they may exchange up to 3 cards with the stock." Who is allowed to exchange? The dealer or any player? I usually try to avoid any gender-specific pronouns on Wikipedia because they're always a target for those more concerned about gender issues than rule accuracy. But sometimes it's difficult and "he or she" is a permitted option provided it's not used too frequently. Bermicourt (talk) 16:28, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

I assume reference to my edit here [3]. I understand the argument for it now. Thanks for the note. signed, Willondon (talk) 16:31, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Amesbury MA highway exit numbers

Please explain why you reverted my edit. Massachusetts switched from sequential to mile marker based exits to meet federal guidelines a few years ago. The new exit numbers are correct. I'm also temporarily blocked from editing any articles. You state the reason as being "unsourced" however the original text had no citation either. A simple look at the I-495 or I-95 in Mass articles would have confirmed its accuracy. 2601:19B:4101:7550:58FA:C7D1:7FE6:11A7 (talk) 04:09, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

The only edit I see in your history is to my talk page here; so I assume reference to this revert [4]. As you noted, I supplied the reason "unsourced". "However the original text had no citation either", which nonetheless doesn't provide us with a source for your edit. "A simple look at the I-495 or I-95 in Mass articles would have confirmed its accuracy." That's not really a simple look; at least it's more effort than we generally demand of readers wanting to confirm the information here. What we need is a source that plainly says those are the exit numbers. If a source is difficult to find, it may be a sign that the information is not particularly notable, and maybe doesn't need to be in the article at all. signed, Willondon (talk) 12:49, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

Nella rose and gary mcf

Nella rose has been in the uk since she was 7 so she's also british and gary mcf is a famous dj in scotland and he did go to that school i live near it and went there Enzomangono (talk) 10:23, 31 December 2023 (UTC)

I need you to be more specific as to what you're talking about. My own efforts found two of your edits on Nella Rose [5], [6]. The first, where you changed the nationality from "Belgian" to "Belgian-British" was reverted by somebody else, with the edit summary "Removal of factually incorrect addition. Proper sourcing already in place to disprove addition". The second is where I reverted you [7], with edit summary "unexplained removal of citation". Both of those reverts are satisfactorily explained to me.
As for "gary mcf is a famous dj in scotland and he did go to that school i live near it and went there", I have no idea what you're referring to, but I can tell you that personal knowledge from editors is not accepted in Wikipedia. Content has to come from a reliable source that readers can consult to convince themselves that the article is true. signed, Willondon (talk) 13:09, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
