Philippines
[edit]Can we talk about the Western culture? It seems like your judgement about "Western culture" and "Philippine culture" is very limited. And I understand, no one is fairly knowledgable about the Philippines outside of it. But I've been living here for decades now. The problem here is you keep debating about things you do not even understand. You confuse race with culture, and keep arguing that western culture is about skin color, when it is not. Culture is culture no matter the color of the skin. And this is not about political correctness, this is me actually studying anthropology for years now.
The Philippines was founded By Miguel Lopez de Legazpi under the Spanish principle. The first Filipinos who call themselves "Filipinos" are Philippine born Spaniards practicing exactly the same traditional culture as what the dominant lowland christianized natives of the Philippines practiced at that time i.e clothing, music, arts, architecture, drama. Which are all based on Western tradition i.e Classical, Renaissance, Baroque, Gothic, Romanesque etc. Records shows that there is no racial divisions when their culture is united, Filipinos(Philippine born spaniards), Tagalogs(of Manila), Visayans, Ilocanos, Bicolanos etc. Their version of western culture albeit going through local lenses, but western culture never the less.
To put things into perspective, Turkish people of today, practice Turkic culture (that originated near China) and hencefort Turkic, even though the majority is white or native of asia minor.
When Egypt was Hellenized by the Greeks, the Egyptian population is still dominant, But that doesn't change Egypt at that time from being HELLENISTIC. Ptolomaic Egypt practice Greek culture and hencefort, Hellenistic in culture. Just like Filipinos practiced western culture and hencefort western culture. - You fundamentally misunderstand the reason I do not consider the Philippines to be integrated with Western Culture. The reason why I consider countries in the Americas like USA and Canada to be integrated but not the Philippines is not one of ethnicity. The reason why I referenced ethnicity is to illustrate the foundation of these civilizations. The people who formed American (United States, not the entire Western hemisphere) culture was predominantly British settlers. These settlers were of all socio-economic backgrounds, from the aristocratic elite down to the indentured servants who worked for them. In the Philippines this is not the case. Rather than the entire populous being transmuted, simply the top positions were. This made it so that the folk culture was, yes, heavily influenced by the Spanish and American colonists who controlled the islands, but not directly descendent from it. This is why I referenced ethnicity in my explanation. Not because it matters what someone's ethnicity is to what culture they are apart of, (as you said, much of the United States is no longer white, and I would consider them fully integrated with Western culture) but rather because the core of the Philippines' culture was not built from the ground up by Europeans. "but with countires like the US and Australia, the entire population was imported from Europe"
[edit]The entire population of both US and Australia are not entirely white. Keroscene777 (talk) 12:21, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- Replied to in main post. Wowza5005 (talk) 07:16, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
"Plurality language is not Western"
[edit]East meets west is basically just Western tradition mixing through to the local lenses. It's clear you know nothing about Philippine culture. Plurality is not a Filipino trait. It is a mostly Christian society, there's no temple besides churches. There's only Churches, Cathedral, Bassilica in every single cities, with the exception of the small autonomous population of the south. When The Germanic tribes adapted Roman culture it also meets their local lenses and mixing into a newer albeit still Romanized culture. Keroscene777 (talk) 12:27, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- I am sorry, but you must not understand what "plurality" means. It simply means the most common thing. For example, if in a group of 10 people 4 of them speak English, 3 Spanish, and 3 Japanese, that would mean the plurality language is English. By the way, I reject your assumption that because you are Filipino, you know better how to categorize your own culture. It is completely backwards, due to your closeness to it, you are unable to see the clear discrepancies between Philippine culture and Western culture. Wowza5005 (talk) 07:20, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm sorry, I noticed that. My wrong. Keroscene777 (talk) 22:45, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
