Cambridge University Press & Assessment

[edit]

Hi ZedZebedy2. I've reverted you a few times Cambridge University Press & Assessment because you are removing a redirect from a page move and it looks like copying content from other pages, which are both things we try to avoid. What are you trying to do? Create a new article on the merged organisation? Where is the text coming from? – Joe (talk) 16:23, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Joe Roe. Did you read my comment on the edit? Happy to put up less and for others to build on it. ZedZebedy2 (talk) 16:33, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The text is coming from news reports about the new organisation, and from the University website. ZedZebedy2 (talk) 16:35, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What I said >> Cambridge University Press & Assessment removed redirect. Looking at other pages for orgs formed by mergers and aquistions, the legacy organisations pages are retained for a historical perspective along with pages for the new organisation - Unilever, for example. Also, big companies also have separate pages for their brands they own > Diageo + Guiness, etc. The University of Cambridge which made the merger also describes its operations in this way ZedZebedy2 (talk) 16:46, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again,
This information isn't anywhere else on Wiki as it only applies to the new organisation >>
About
Cambridge University Press & Assessment is a non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge. It was formed in August 2021, when the University of Cambridge merged its global academic research and education publisher Cambridge University Press and worldwide assessment arm University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES, also known as Cambridge Assessment).
History
Cambridge University Press & Assessment was formed on 1 August 2021. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II approved amendments to University of Cambridge Statutes, which formally recognised the operational merger of Cambridge University Press and Cambridge Assessment, presented at a Privy Council meeting on 15 December 2021. The main changes to the Statutes were to replace references to the University Press with references to the merged entity under the title of the Press and Assessment Department, and to update the name of the Press Syndicate to the Press & Assessment Syndicate.

In January 2022 it announced its education team, formed of the two teams from its legacy organsiations, will be split into one team that focuses on the UK education sector and one that focuses on international education.

Governance
The organisation is governed by a ‘Syndicate’ (Press & Assessment Syndicate) of 18 senior members of the University of Cambridge. Day-to-day management of the business is delegated by the Syndicate to the Cambridge University Press & Assessment's Chief Executive, working with its Executive Board.

Syndicate decisions are published by the official newspaper of the University of Cambridge, the Cambridge University Reporter (‘the Reporter’).

finally, adding a 'products and services' section to this page would bring together the confused spawn of Wiki pages about various products created or owned by Cambridge University Press & Assessment. This isn't set out clearly elsewhere - not even on its own website. Digging into each of the subsidery Wiki pages uncovers layer after layer of products with their own pages eg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_English_Language_Testing_System; Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA); https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Literature_Admissions_Test, etc). I misunderstood from your edit summary that you were trying to recreate the (old version of) the moved page. Sorry about that. Stray pseudo-footnotes like the [4] in "and to update the name of the Press Syndicate to the Press & Assessment Syndicate. [4]" are usually also a sign something was copy and pasted.
I've restored the last version so you can keep working on it. Please try to add more references—preferably ones not associated with Cambridge—if you can, or it might not survive long. Apologies again for the mix-up. – Joe (talk) 15:09, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Joe. I'll keep dipping into this. Funny what happens when you look up a vocational qualification on Wiki that's out of date! ZedZebedy2 (talk) 12:14, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
