Vaddarse Prabhankar Shetty, better known as V.P. Shetty, is an Indian banker who is the Chairman of JM Financial Asset Reconstruction Co. Pvt. Ltd., JM Financial Asset Management Co. Pvt. Ltd. and JM Financial Products Ltd.[1] He retired as Chairman and Managing Director of IDBI Bank in 2007. Before joining IDBI, he was also Chairman and Managing Director of UCO Bank and Canara Bank.[2] He began his career with Vijaya Bank. Life

Born in Kundapura, Udupi district, India,[citation needed] V.P. Shetty is a graduate in Commerce from Bangalore University.[citation needed] He started his career with Vijaya Bank in 1973, and he retired as Chairman and Managing Director of IDBI Ltd. in June 2007.[citation needed] Positions held by him at banks include Chairman and Managing Director of UCO Bank and Canara Bank.[citation needed] As Chairman of IDBI, he was a member of many international bodies, such as the Association of Development Financial Institutions in Asia and the Pacific [ADFIC], South Asian Development Fund [SADF], and the Association of Development and Industrial Banks in Asia [ADIBA].[citation needed] He has also been the director of many public financial institutions, such as Life Insurance Corporation of India, General Insurance Corporation of India, EXIM Bank, etc.[citation needed] He was the Chairman of Indian Banks' Association from 2006 to 2007.[4][5] He has been the recipient of the 'Banker of the Year - 2003' Award from the Business Standard Group in recognition of his successful turnaround of UCO Bank.[6][failed verification]
