Back in 1922, Grebenac, the birthplace of Popa was a 100% Romanian village, having a Romanian taught school, as well as a Romanian Church. Popa attended school in his birthplace, as well as Romanian High School in Vrsac. His first poems were written in Romanian. He later switched on writing in Serbian.
