- Template:Editnotices/Page/User:Community Tech bot/Popular pages config.json (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
No information is conveyed by this editnotice that isn't also conveyed by the "this page is protected" banner that shows up when trying to edit the page. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 15:43, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
- Keep The creator is a WMF software engineer, User:NKohli (WMF). We shouldn't go deleting technical items that the developers consider to be useful. Of course, if she no longer thinks it's useful, it can be deleted immediately. Nyttend (talk) 17:21, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
Keep @Pppery: The page still acts as a config page which the bots reads to determine which popular pages reports it needs to generate. If we delete the page, the bot will cease to work. Users cannot edit the page but they can leave a note on the talk page to let us know which reports they want. I then go in and add the report myself or another admin can do so. Thanks for understanding. Also, thanks Nyttend. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 17:34, 11 March 2019 (UTC)- @NKohli (WMF): I never was trying to delete the page, only the editnotice. First of all, yes, I know the page cannot be edited, but first of all editnotices do not appear to show up when you can't edit the page, and even if this editnotice did, the standard "you cannot edit this" box for user JSON pages conveys exactly the same information. Neither you nor Nyttend are actually addressing my argument for deletion. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 18:59, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Pppery: My apologies, I misunderstood. I agree with you, we can get rid of the edit notice. It does not show up, as you mentioned. I'll update my comment to reflect that. Thank you so much. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 19:32, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

- Delete The template does not show up anywhere, like Pppery noted. It can be safely deleted. Thanks. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 19:32, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
- Deleted. Actually, I was addressing your argument, since developers may need pages for purposes you or I don't imagine, and we shouldn't delete such pages without checking. I didn't actually look at User:Community Tech bot/Popular pages config.json; my comments were based on the history of the editnotice. But of course, if she no longer thinks it's useful, it can be deleted immediately is true, and since she doesn't, I've trashed it. Nyttend (talk) 21:12, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
