Discussion
[edit]- Would only need admin rights temporarily. Once all the protected pages have been edited then admin rights could be removed.
- @WOSlinker: please see Wikipedia:Bot_policy#Bots_with_administrative_rights regarding discussions that should be concluded prior to this moving to trial. — xaosflux Talk 16:51, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- Discussion closed in support of granting the admin flag. As soon as Xaosflux sees this I'd say you're good for a trial. Primefac (talk) 17:54, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- Next step short trial to be
run on the operator's main account, with its edits clearly marked as such.
. So please do 10-20 edits on your main account and report back for bot trialing. — xaosflux Talk 18:56, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]- @Xaosflux: I've done 11 edits, [1] -- WOSlinker (talk) 11:44, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @WOSlinker: while the edits are an improvement, it looks like these same pages will need to be touched again (e.g. to deal with the deprecated font tags) can this all be done in one pass? — xaosflux Talk 16:27, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @Xaosflux: I wasn't planning on changing font tags to span tags. It's not something I want to do. My only aim is to make the pages readable. While it's still possible to include font tags in signatures, there's not much point in trying to eliminate font tags as it will be an endless task. - @WOSlinker: OK - how long do you expect the entire job to last (I think you said this is a one-time limited run)? — xaosflux Talk 20:38, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- I think it should all be done within a week. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:30, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @Primefac: would you like this to go to trial, I won't flag and approve the same request, and this will need the sysop flag to trial. — xaosflux Talk 20:38, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved for trial (50 edits or 4 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. If WOSlinker needs more time to complete the trial, then it can be extended, but a temporary granting of the admin flag should satisfy most of the concerned editors at the AN discussion. Primefac (talk) 20:49, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Ping to Xaosflux. The 4-day timer should start once the admin flag has been granted. Primefac (talk) 16:38, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- @Xaosflux and Primefac: Trial complete. 50 edits are done. -- WOSlinker (talk) 21:10, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- I notice that in edits such as this it puts the font tags outside the square brackets. Will that cause an issue and end up triggering this bot to also edit the page? Should the font tags end up inside the wikilinks? (also seen here)
- Yes, it may do. I've not been looking at that particular lint error at all. -- WOSlinkerBot (talk) 21:46, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Also, in Special:Diff/876048531 the bot puts two font tags next to each other for Pumpkin, but for The Transumanist it puts the
</font>
right before the subsequent<font>
- why the difference? (also seen here) Primefac (talk) 21:36, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]- The first font tag for Pumpkin also contains a face attribute as well as a color attribute but the second font tag doesn't, so the first can't be closed as early as for Transumanist. e.g. Pumpkin vs Pumpkin -- WOSlinkerBot (talk) 21:46, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
