Why Wikipedia@Naturalis?[edit]

In recent years this editable internet encyclopedia in many language versions has been widely used as a reference. For example, during last May the articles on Biodiversity on the Spanish and English Wikipedia were consulted 132,009 and 68,517 times, respectively. With Wikipedia and also with Wikispecies, Naturalis can reach many people worldwide.

For researchers and students wishing to share their expertise with the public at large, Wikipedia is an appropriate medium for outreach. You can reach colleagues as well when you write on Wikipedia. However, editors of Wikipedia need to understand the special working principles of this medium.

In the short course Wikipedia Workshop (Tuesday 10 November 2015, 2:00 - 5:00 PM, Naturalis Regentenkamer) we can discuss these topics. How should we use Wikipedia, is it reliable? How can we improve Wikipedia by corrections and additions? How can we write new articles, upload photographs, longer texts and other files?
