1) I can't find it on the source site (and I'm not about to wade through all the pages), and 2) it looks like a scan from a magazine or newspaper. Deleted. While it does say "No copyright" on the front of the page that can at best be read to mean the webmaster claims on copyright on the material himself. There are clearly several media images, newspaper scans and video clips captured from TV broadcasts on the site that defenently are under copyright (and the "texture" of the image kinda looks like it's scanned from a printed picture), and while most of the images seem to be contributed via e-mail by users of the site, those would all be copyrighted by whoever took the photos. Nowhere (that I fan find) does it say that contributors must transfer all theyr rights to the images to the webmaster. The site obviously have permissinon to use those images, but that is no basis to say that the (unknown) photographer who took that image have released all rights to it. I know copyright laws can be a PITA in these cases, but we need to contact the photographer directly to determine the status of the image, and this site doesn't say who contributed it (I haven't even found the actuial image on the site yet). You might try contacting the webmaster to see if he has kept any records of who sent him wich photos and try tracking down the actual photographer. If you get the copyright holder to say that all rights to the image have been waived or permission to use it under a free license have been granted I'd be happy to undelete it at that time, but currently the copyright status is unclear at best. --Sherool (talk) 07:52, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

No verifiable information about the photo (author, time, circumstances) are available. therefore the image cannot be used in such a controversial article as Pontic Greek Genocide. The photo comes from a 'relatively' biased site called 'www.hellenicgenocide.com' that has given no indications as to where it comes from.. This could easily be the property of a magazine like National Geographic. And most importantly there are no indications from reliable academic sources as to the date it was taken.. Which means that this photo could be the property of National Geo about an event that happened in 1965 in Kazakhstan.. And as such this would put Wiki in direct competition with National Geo, which would be a clear breach of copyright regulation in every country, and as such would not fall under fair use provisions. Exactly. There is lots of supposition about the content of the photo. And the policy is wikipedia:Verifiability. The website the photo taken from claims it is "dead villagers of Giresun". But Giresun is a town. This means this website is careless to facts. For all we know these may be "dead 'villagers' of Baghdad died of plague". Mukadderat 21:37, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I responded to this on the article's page - "villagers" is virtually the same thing as "townspeople." To me, that seems like a terrible reason to argue against this photo. It's really splitting hairs. --Awiseman 21:45, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Giresun may have been a village back then, and considering that most of its population will have been slaughtered by the Young Turks, one could also have classified it as a near-lifeless locality. Also, this image can be found on some pages of the website of the Democritus University of Thrace [1] which also says it's Greeks from Giresun, and they also say "feel free to mirror this site" [2]. Does this mean the image is not copyrighted...--Tekleni 21:56, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if you've ever been to univeristy, but they're pretty strict on what can be done on their servers. One could assume that any picture uploaded to Wikipedia from a source claiming "feel free to use" is lying. You have provided no evidence. Crooked logic. They provided no evidence. The burden of proof is theirs. It is clear that they did not take the photo. Source is unknown. Period. Your play of words and gaming of policies won't work. One must have a permission of an author or owner. These websites don't say they are authors or owners. They say "feel free to use what I downloaded from somewhere".
