Why the heck was the French Open men's final never aired?![edit]
They never showed the French Open men's final on ESPN or the Tennis Channel? What's up with that?--24.153.177.210 19:43, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- From what I heard it was an argument over licensing rights that caused the game not to be shown in most areas. PeteShanosky 02:38, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- I can't speak for those channels, but Australian TV channels have a similar indifference to the French Open. The other 3 Grand Slam events (Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon) are all broadcast live here, to huge viewer audiences, but for some reason the French Open just doesn't attract much interest here. Maybe it has something to do with the clay courts. Or maybe it's because Australia has done very poorly there of recent years (last Men's singles winner & runner-up - 1979; last Women's singles winner - 1973, last runner-up - 1979; last Men's doubles winner - 2000) - but we did figure in the Women's doubles winners both in 2007 and 2006 (Molik and Stosur), a fact which seems to have escaped the attention of the Australian media except for some fine print buried in the sports pages of newspapers. Or maybe it's because the tournament, officially known as "Tournoi de Roland Garros", is named after a person who most people would be surprised to learn had nothing whatsoever to do with tennis. -- JackofOz 02:56, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
It is mainly to do with the fact that clay court tennis and much more longer and tedious than most other tournaments. The fact that it is dominated by Europeans and Australians, Americans and Brits usually make early exits.
I watched it on one of the networks where I live (FL, US). I think it was CBS that aired it. Recury 17:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
