LOTR Return of The King movie – technical question

[edit]

I don't know if it's a silly question, but how come reverse camera angles are seen in these two versions of the scene showing the farewell at the Grey Havens: [1][2]. One of them must be taken from a different, i.e. the extended edition, right?--Moduin (talk) 14:26, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could you provide time stamps for what you want us to look at? There were bits in the second link (I did not watch either in its entirety) that I do not recognize, so I assume they were from the theatrical version or possibly from the Hobbit movies. Having watched the extended versions multiple times, it was a shock to me to see the theatrical version of FOTR on Netflix; very many shots were tweaked slightly and felt askew from what I was expecting to see. A revsed angle here or there would be the least of it. Matt Deres (talk) 02:12, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Matt Deres: Thanks for posting! Timestamps: yes, I mean the difference between version 1 from beginning and version 2 at 2:43. Best--Moduin (talk) 20:16, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Moduin: I see now what you're asking about. The reversal is not due to one or the other being from the extended editions; the image has been flipped by the user, likely to circumvent copyright claims. I'm certainly no expert on copyright, but I have seen numerous comments by YouTube uploaders that they must mirror the videos to prevent YouTube from removing the material. Perhaps they're only referring to automated removal. In any event, both the theatrical and extended editions feature Gandalf, Elrond, et al boarding the same direction - the boat is on the left side of the dock (as seen from land looking out to sea). @Matt Deres: Ah, okay. Thank you so much for this enlightenment!--Moduin (talk) 18:59, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
