[edit]Color changes in modern VFX editing
[edit]While changing colors shown in film scenes are classics methods of film editing - how do they do it today e.g. when changing the color of pants? I assume this is done with computer help today - does this count as CGI? --KnightMove (talk) 14:54, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think it'd count as CGI, seeing as they're just editing something they already shot. CoolJamesII (talk) 16:11, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Well, this is also a perfectly normal usecase for CGI. In the motivating film Top Gun: Maverick, they predominantly CGI'd aircraft into other types. --KnightMove (talk) 16:15, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- You're right, but there's a difference between simply changing something's color and transforming it entirely. CoolJamesII (talk) 16:19, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, but they're both clearly examples of using a computer to generate imagery. That's all CGI is; it's not only used for starships. That's 3D computer graphics, which is just a subcategory of CGI as a whole. Matt Deres (talk) 19:35, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

- r/vfx on Reddit has active users who worked on CGI for Top Gun: Maverick and you can ask them this question directly with either a public post or a private message. Viriditas (talk) 21:10, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
