CPL / ND filters for a Contixo F18 drone

[edit]

Hello,

I am looking for some CPL / ND filters for my drone, a Contixo F18. Upon searching amazon, i have found that these are actually made for specific drones. However, it seems my model is comparatively more modestly priced, and that such filters aren't available specifically to fit my drone. (Or perhaps it is because DJI has this type of thing planned out more than other manufacturers...?) Is there something else i can do to relatively easily retrofit one of the other sets of filters, or perhaps do so with a filter intended for camera use? I did find filter adapters, but i'm not sure that will help. Also, i wonder if the way that the camera is set inside the body of the drone makes it more difficult.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Filter or filters? If you don't need to be able to change them quickly, then something crude made from gaffer tape is perfectly adequate. You can even cut them down, if they're plastic (or if they're glass and you can cut it). Just check that the circular polariser is mounted the right way round - some have an in and out (camera) side.
If you do need to make them swappable, I'd look at using rare earth magnets to attach a simple mount. Andy Dingley (talk) 22:31, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, regarding the rare earth magnet setup, how would i get these best attached to the drone? Wouldn't the magnetic field mess with the drone's electronics or with the camera / SD card? So far the gaffer tape idea seems best, if only because of concerns whether magnets would cause things not to work.

You'd have to test it. But an advantage to rare earth magnets is that they're powerful - thus you can use the tiny ones. As the field from a magnet has a range related to the pole separation, small, powerful magnets are less trouble than larger ones. The only thing that would be affected would be the compass - and even those (as they're a fluxgate compass) are pretty insensitive to nearby stationary magnets.
